I don't know about your tow vehicles but I have always been able to charge my battery and run the slides in and out with my Ram when I had my 318SAB Cougar. Every once in a while I would forget to unhook the battery when we put the unit in storage. The parasitic losses from the camper would drain the camper battery; so the legs would not extend or retract. I would plug in the umbilical cord from the truck and work the legs and charge the battery overtime; as we drove the camper home from the storage lot.
I also relied on the truck's alternator to supplement the electrical needs when not hooked up to shore power when extending or retracting the slides. If I didn't do this the amperage from the camper battery was insufficient to power the slides.
