2014 Silverbacks
Has anyone seen the 2014 Silverbacks? From everything I have seen online it appears to me that the drivers side slide no longer has a cathedral ceiling! The other two slides still have the cathedral ceilings? Am I looking at the info correctly and if I am, why the design change!

You are looking at it correctly. Not sure why they changed. I like it on all slides and I am glad I bought mine when I did. I like the bathroom change but hate the sink with the side faucet. I think they could have done that better

Ive got a 2014 Silverback and I bought it before the change and I'm glad I did, the only thing I like in the newer one is the bigger shower. I do not like the sink and the smaller cabinet space in the bathroom. Also to get the sink in they had to put a bump out in the bedroom that took away a lot of room.
I think the Silverback should have stayed grey, it looks like a Silverback.

I have no idea why they took out the cathedral ceiling on the driver's side in the living area. Being slightly OCD I don't think I could handle having one slideoout with the cathedral ceiling and one flat.
I think I'm in a minority, but I like the new color. But then my Silverback is white and not grey.

Also looking at the mfgr's online spec's it appears that the front landing legs are now hydraulic and the 6 pt. level up system is an option! Maybe I should have waited 1 more year.

Yes the front landing gear is hydraulic and at the dealer in Winnipeg it's a $6000 option. Probably less if ordered right from the factory.

I was at my dealer a couple of weeks ago and 2 of the 4 2014's did not have the cathedral slide in the living area.

I just ordered my 2014 37BH and it has cathedral slides all around? I did order it with the 6 point leveling but I don't think it cost 6k. more like 2k.

Really like the new 29IK but why is it over 1000 lbs heavier empty than the 29RE with over 400 of that on the pin? It looks exactly the same except for the island sink and a small pantry.

I think it is due to the additional cabinets where the sink is at on the re that adds the pin weight on the ik. The overall weight is due to the additional cabinets and the island. I could see that weighing almost 1000 on the overall weight

1000 pounds is a lot for a few cabinets and they have moved the sink back over the axles, so it is hard for me to see 400 pounds added to the pin when the added cabinets are not very far forward of the axles. That's like putting 500 lbs in the basement.

I think also part of the pin weight is due to the smaller slide on the kitchen side. The larger slide on the re adds more weight behind the axles. But I still think the extra cabinets and two counter tops instead of one can add to the extra 1,000 overall

Slides look identical to me. I can see some increase in weight because of the extra cabinets and counter but not more than two or three hundred pounds. We're not talking granite counter tops here. Think I will drop FR an email.

notsosan - anything we do here is purely guessing. You might want to contact Cedar Creek directly.

The slide on the re is bigger. Depth wise.

Yes, it does look deeper. That would explain an increase in pin weight but a smaller slide should mean less total weight.

I always thought it was interesting that the 29RE was lighter than my 29RL yet the RE models have longer slideouts. The only difference between these two models is the living area layout and the lighter RE model has more cabinets in the entertainment center. If anything I would think the RE should be the heavier unit, not lighter.
UVW is 9790 for the 29RE.
UVW is 10014 for the 29RL.
I don’t try to figure these things out, I just enjoy my fifth wheel. BTW the 29RL is a discontinued model.

Here's a FR video of the new Silverbacks that was posted just a little over a month ago. I think the model in the video is a 29IK.
They don't show much of the non-cathedral slideout.

Nice video, the major changes from our 2013 model are the frameless windows and the 6 point level up system. I wonder if the structural frame under went changes as I enquired about the 6 pt. level system at time of purchase and in the 2013 model year I was told it was not available. I have a email into cedar creek re: the design change in the cathedral ceiling no reply as of yet. Maybe we could use a factory rep as in some other models?? I wonder if cedar creek rectified the opening at the front left landing gear in the 2014's? But hey, in a little less than 5 months we will be able to use ours again!
