2017 Cedar Creek Champagne 1- 1/4" Factory Bike Rack Receiver Hitch

I'm curious who uses this? Getting ready for a trip and installed our bike rack (40#) and two bikes 32# / 30#. According to the rating on the hitch 150# is max. Never had a hitch that seems to flex front to back. Seems flimsy. Really concerned on fatigue from normal bouncing of trailer

I don't use mine for that very reason. Too much flex.

Also, can't find anyone who makes bike racks that don't warn against using their product on trailers. Granted I haven't looked everywhere, but the few racks I was interested in specifically said not for trailer use.

I installed a hitch on our previous trailer. Was adjustable. Bolted to the frame. Was much heavier than this factory install.

We have a 34RL Cedar Creek which we purchased a ladder mounted bike rack for from E-Trailer . Com. This is a very will made bike rack that has two pins, that when removed you can swing the support arms out of the way to access the ladder. There is a video of the bike rack on E-Trail.com for you to review.

Where did you get that hitch? I'd like to find a universal hitch that would bolt to the frame of our 36ckts with a 2" reciever.

We have an older model 34 rl and when we bought it we had a hitch welded on to the fame (think it was 100 bucks...)also this past year Swagman came up with a bike carrier that holds 2 bikes where the bikes sit in the rack and not hang and the pin that holds the rack into the hitch is screwed into the hitch and then locked in place and stops any type off movement! It move only as the trailer moves...it's the best rack I've seen out there for trailers!
We have a rear camera and this past summer I've noticed very little movement where as before I was always worried about our bikes bouncing around!

I heard on this forum that someone talked to the factory and was told the hitch was rated at 250 lbs, my hitch only showed 50 lbs

I found a frame mount 2" reciever hitch on Amazon for about $240. It is bolt on but could easily be welded. Fits perfect under bumper. Just need to be careful of steep grades. I have air bags on my 2015 Silverado 2500hd and with 30+ lbs of pressure I bottom out on a 12+ pitch grade. Easy solution is to drain air off bags it that situation. Traveling on roads, I have nevet experienced that type of grade. I live in CT and travel all over.

While your hitch might be rated to 150lbs, keep in mind that is prob a static load. Once the bike rack gets bouncing on the roadway the two 30lbs bikes and the 30 lbs rack will probably torque the hitch well beyond the 150lbs mark.

I bought a SWAGMAN bike rake that will work on the rear of camper. I also had a heavier hitch made for the rear of my Champagne due to the repair shop hitting it on curb and bending it. The new works much better still 1 1/4 " receiver though.

I have the Swagman and it's been on 2 fifth wheels and x country. In each case I use additional ratchet tie downs along with "soft tie" loops. Takes 90% of bounce out. You still need to have correct allen wrenches and check occasionally. Roads are BRUTAL!!

CC Receiver Hitch 1-1/4"

I did a lot of research before using my rack. The most important things I did was replace the foam with leather strapping, tightenied all bolts and screws then added straps on left and right to reduce swaying. My bike shop owner friend said that Swagman told him the breakage was mostly from side to side. 10,000 miles and no problems. Also CC told me they were considering going back to the 2" hitch. Finally don't modify or add a fixed hitch if you have a warranty as it will be voided if anything breaks.

With the bike rack I have there is a knob that tightens the insert into the receiver and you get no slack movement only up and down from the bike rack frame at times not all the times just depends on the road.

I also have a pin with threads that you tighten up to reduce up and down and sideway movement.
