36RE sewer odor

When holding tanks get over the 3/4 full mark there is a sewer odor in the bed room. I have located the source to the wash machine drain plumbing. No wash machine installed. There is some type of check value located behind the wall of drawers.

When the tanks are emptied the odor goes away.

What can you tell me about this?

There is a trap in the drain line that you need to keep filled with water. Add water to any unused drains on a regular basis.

I have a 36RE 2011 but haven't experienced a problem with smell from the washer lines? Evidently the two gray tanks overflow to each other when the valves are closed but that shouldn't be causing the smell to back up the washer drain pipe.

As previously suggested-- the next time this happens try pouring a quart of water
down each drain in the area, especially the washing machine drain.
This will work if there is a dry drain trap in the area.

If you are sure the odor is coming out the washer drain it should be easy to plug that
drain. I am not familiar with your trailer but you can get rubber plumbing drain
plugs of various sizes at a plumbing supply shop or probably Home Depot or Lowes.

36RE sewer odor source found

In talking with other owners of Forest River trailers, I found this to be a known problem. There is a vent for the washer drain installed after the p-trap so there is no vented outlet other than into the bed room closet.

The fix is a plastic bag placed over the vent and sealed with a zip tie.

The Cedar Creek designer for this needs to learn what happens when things are not vented to the outside.

See what size the pipe is and go to homedepot or lowes and put a plastic cap on top. The bag is good, but what if it tears. Just a thought.
