50 amp surge guard

Camping World has 50amp surge guard on sale with a $29 buck install. What I would like to know is how many on here have them on your camper, and would you get a hardwired one or a plug in. Also C/W has a satellte Dish on sale that install's on top of camper at a good price and a $29 install fee. I already have a Tailgater, what would you do

I like the hardwired. I once got the portable plug in Progressive EMS, after a heavy rain one night it got too wet and started reading incorrectly. I returned it to Progressive and got a hardwired unit. Some power pedestals are very low to the ground. Once you plug the portable unit in the bottom is sometimes on the ground.
With the great price on the install, I would go with the hardwired.

Thanks for asking. I strongly suggest that you buy the Progressive Industries EMS unit instead. This has a Lifetime transferable warranty and is Made in USA. The Surge Guard you're looking at has a one year warranty and is made overseas somewhere. I was under the impression that CW was doing this $29 install deal on just about anything.

Especially if you're having someone else install it, I would get the hardwired unit. They can't "walk away", are out of the elements, and have a handy display to show you what's going on.

As for roof-mounted Sat dish. Nah. They cost a fortune and when you park under trees, you can't use it. Stick with the Tailgater you have unless you are in a Motorhome and want to watch TV while you're moving. (If the Tailgater isn't meeting your needs, go to a tripod and dish you can align yourself.)

I have a 50 amp hardwired Progressive Industries EMS.

A roof mounted dish is convenient but only if you never camp under trees.

If they will hardwire an EMS 50 for $29 let em. It took me half a day. Working with #6 wire is a bear. The wire cost that much.

I just talked to Camping World and the $29 install is really not true, you have to read the fine print. I was told that was not covered under the $29 fee and it would be 2 hours at $120 per hour plus parts. I am thinking now about the portable one now, I don't need to try to wire the unit up myself, I might kill myself or melt the camper.

My hardwire was a 45 minute install.

Took longer to round up tools...
