However, before I use the Genie set-up, I check and double check my antenna's settings for tilt, azimuth, elevation (especially elevation). I had to get my eyeball close to the elevation markings, else I couldn't see the index pointer for the degree marks.

Do a search for azimuth or Direct tv or DIRECTV and find many other threads where details are given and explained. Here's one: http://www.forestriverforums.com/forums/f68/direct-tv-71149.html
I use a compass to find the direction to point the Dish I set the tri-pod to get a good view of the sw skies Ipull up the center post and use a bullet level with magnet built in to make sure it is plumb then before i put dish on pole i make the skew and elevation adj. (its too hard to see marks when on pole ( I have a book i got from a dish man that gives the exact #'s for every area code in the states) Instead of calling back and forth to DW i bring a small Tv and a 311 rec. out iplug every thing i have a pig-tail cable he put on the gun for me plug it to rec. run a cable from rec. to Tv
select menu go to set-up change area code signal strenth meter comes up
set the az to the highest % (around 70) and your good for a rain of 4"/hr
according to him. I've never lost signal in over three years.

I finally listened to a number of different forum posters look at the tripod offered from Satellite TV for RV - Tripod - Slimline - Dish - DirectTV - RV television - Recreational Vehicles - RVers - DishTV - Satellite Dish - FTA - Tripod. I ordered their HD tripod setup in Nov then. Ecause of the early snow this year I was not able to try it at home. I have set it up now three times in 5 weeks and I am very glad thT I have this setup. Tripod and dish setup time is less then 15 minutes after my first time. I use the built-in meter on the receiver. I have a small flat screen that i setup on a folding table near the dish for instant feedback. I have to say that i have been spot on with aiming the second and third time I setup without any fine tuning necessary. I heartily endorse the H&G ENTERPRISES tripod offered on their website.
Thanks for your info. I ordered the tripod from H&G It works great

We have used everything under the sun to get our direcTV working at the lake. We bought a Winegard Pathway X2 portable satellite antenna and its 5 mins of set up and it's on. It's so much easier. You just set it up and it finds the satellite for you. When it does find the satellite you unplug the 12 volt cord and you have satellite until you put it away. I have spent hours trying to get signals and using Sat finders. Some would come in but the portable is every time.

We used the portable auto unit on the last camper we had. Hen we sold the house we wanted the Genie and HD in our new home and the auto would not do this.

The TV4RV tripod works great. I am now on my 6th setup in 9 weeks and after my first setup which took some time i have now hit my 5th HD SWM setup sat hookup without having to tweak a thing. Using the HD tripod and the compass and level that all came with the kit it takes 15 min to setup. Also use DishPointer iPhone app to sight thru trees for aiming. Sll works seamlessly together to get HD programing easily.
