Air Compressor

I was just wondering what everyone is using for a compressor. I have a small 1 gal one the goes to 100#'s, but that's not really enough. I think I need to get at least a 125#, and I have seen tank ones, and some tank less ones say they can deliver up to 150#'s. Anyone use the tank less ones? Thanks

If your tires take more then 100psi you do need a higher pressure unit. I carry a cheap HF pancake compression in the bed of the truck works fine for what I need.

it's a bit pricey but the viair rv model works really well! it is tankless and gets high pressure to fill high psi tires. I use 110 psi. it is also much smaller than the models with pancake style tanks.

Sears 3 gal, 150#. Not too heavy, but not the lightest. High volume so it doesn't take long.

I carry a 6 gallon pancake Dewalt 150PSI air compressor. I plug this into any 110V outlet on the side of the camper or in one of the storage bays and or into the power post which every is convenient. I also carry a 30' air hose with a air chuck plus a blow of tool to clean up with air if needed.

The only time I air up my tires on any vehicle is before starting out for the day when the tires are cold. Air pressure is checked and if required I will inflate them to the 110PSI requirement. The wheel lug nut torque is also checked at this time. I have found that the tires inflation is only required at extreme temperature swings and or extreme elevation changes.

Got one of these thru Amazon. Reasonably priced, very compact and provides sufficient pressure and volume for the truck (70lbs) and the fifth wheel (110lbs) ..... and with attachments you can do hobbies and chores as well

Kenny, that's a slick mount you have there!

I just bought the model just under the Viair RV model. It may go further, but does the 80psi that I need (quickly).

Where are you parked?

I had a flat today when leaving the campsite. I went past a bunch of RV's going out as we were in the back. I heard someone whistle at some point, but there were kids and people everywhere. I stopped at the the dump station and did a walk around. Nothing. Nice young Puma owner at the next station came over and said I had a flat. C O O L!!!! Just what I wanted. Pulled out of the way and soaped the RR TV tire and had 4 little slit type leaks in the tread of the tire. It was at 25 psi so I aired to 70 and stopped about 10 miles away. 70.6 Sweet. It's making air. Guess I gotta buy tires.

I carry a small Viair 150 PSI High-Flow Air Source Kit | VIAIR Corporation Yes a little more expensive but it lives in my tool box in the bed and powers my air horns and also has an aux outlet so I carry 50 ft of old air hose to reach all tires....at 150 psi it does a good job of airing them up. I have also used a couple air tools briefly with it...

I have a VIAIR 200 psi unit mounted under my truck. No matter where I am, I can always air up a tire. And, as you would expect, it has helped other people that needed air.

Lowes has the Porter Cable 150 psi pan cake compress on sale now for $ 99.00 I have one and love it. Works great on my 5th. Wheel tires at 110 psi and my trailair pin box at 120 psi with power to spare. Normal price i believe is $169.99 or $179.99

For the camper, I also spent some $$ and got a Vair (tankless but VERY powerful). It easily fills my 50 psi camper tires and also 80psi airbags on the Tundra. They have a few different model but I believe some go up to 120psi.

It runs off the Tundra batteries (12-volt) so I purchased about 30 feet of extra power cable from Home Depot and so I can use it even when the trailer is hooked up.

I just checked on Amazon and the prices have come way down....highly recommended! (They are powerful but the quietest compressor I've ever heard....more like a loud hum than the annoying screech that my garage compressor makes)

Just bought a Viair 450P Automatic Function Portable Compressor. I like it. I may have to hard wire and mount it like Kenny's. Great idea.

6 gallon 150 psi harbor freight air compressor works great for me. I have 120 volt AC outlets on both sides of camper and plenty of battery/solar power to run the inverter ot power the compressor.

I picked up a OILESS COMPRESSOR from lowes on sale. (I think $120). I separated the compressor from the 5 gallon tank, and did a little replumbing with quick disconnects for some flexibility. I also picked up a cheap ($25) hose real, and it is mounted one storage compart in fron of the compressor. There is a 110 outlet on the RV just above the storage bay. I can open both bays, plug in the compressor, and qith the quck disconnect hook up the real. I then have 50 foot of hose to work with and a 5 gallon tan. I added a water separator at the hose end, to keep the air dry. (I just added balance beads). So far I am very happy with it. IT HAS TO BE OILESS. (I actually have the compressor on the side). ONE NOTE: I took off the normal fitting from compressor to tank.... it had a check valve and a bleed down built into it..... without them the compressor will not fire up a second time (do not ask)..... The original one would not accept a quick disconnect, so I put in a check valve and drilled a small hole in the fitting above the check valve.. It hisses a little when filling up, but at least it will restart. I put the tank in so the water drain is still low. One of these days, I will drill a hole and put in a small tube so the little bit if water blows outside. SO FAR this has not been a problem. BUT I tend to turn it on, and fill the tires then drain it. I had a small leak so I was doing it every week or so. That tire has been replaced, so I may not need it for a while. I plan to drive Anchorage to Alaska, so wanted something. I also picked up an impact wrench, but even at full pressure I had to use a breaker bar. I am not sure if it is because the last tire guy cranked them down, or there was rust..... It was a sears impact, not the best.. AT least after I broke them it made it quicker to take off, and with 10 nuts per tire, it is nice to have. I always put them back on at the lowest setting and finish of by hand.

Question: Does anyone else have trouble with your compressor when in dry climate and high altitude? Was in the rockies couple of weeks ago and had the hardest time getting 80PSI for my buddies 5th wheel tire.
