Batteries

For those of you running Trojan 6v batteries, what type are you running? I see a lot of people talking about the T-105 and T-125, why not the T-145. They are all the same size.

Thanks,
Rick

Batteries

Well actually the t 145 is larger/taller by almost an inch- .7 to be exact.

I just made the switch to 2 t125's last weekend after my interstates crapped out. Bought new boxes and locking straps and then was advised that the 145's were taller! Yep will not fit a standard box.

This will be the first weekend out with them but staying at full hook up spot

Oh and I hear that Trojan has a commercial version (non branded) of the t105. Just in a black casing. If you can find those you might save some $$$. Too bad you don't live closer- I feel like I stole my 125's @ 75 each.

Additional information. I plan on running 4 of them, as I have a residential fridge. After a few hours now my 2 12v batteries are getting low, just over 11v.

If they are at 11v, they are dead. 4 6v's with an available 240 amp hours would do pretty well for you. What converter are you using?

I have four T-125 batts.

Like Hondaman said the T-145 are a little taller and it is tight getting them in there. Then you still need to get your hands in there to hookup, water etc.

I got the Trojan HydroLink Watering system, to make watering easier.

Hondaman, I think it was 11.5 or 11.8, but definitely too low. I’m going to take an 8 hour drive soon and want the batteries to hold and perform better.
The converter is a 1000 Watt WFCO Pure sine wave converter. The model is WF-5110H.

Thanks Racer4, I’m hoping to get my camper back from the dealer this weekend. I need to measure the battery box to make sure everything will work. I will get the Hydrolink watering system as well.

No that's an inverter- used to turn D.C. Into ac.

A converter recharges your batteries and makes 12v

Good Point, it is a WFCO 55AMP, Model WF-9855. Would I need to upgrade this as well?

Thank you!

Batteries

Well I was always struggling to keep my batteries charged when dry camping cause momma likes it warm. I too had a WFCO and it wouldnt go into bulk mode so would spend 4 hours in the morning and 3 hours at night running generator when dry camping to keep things up. I got frustrated and bought the progressive dynamics 4655 conversion. Really easy to install even with the charge medallion. Big change. Maybe 2 or three hours in the morning then one before bed would top off. I also bought a 50 amp ammeter that sits next to the converter to watch what the output is.

Guess I would have information overload if I put the ammeter display next to my progressive industries EMS display!

I just looked up your 9855 and is way different than my 8955 I replaced. The question you need to ask is if your unit is outputting 14.4 when needed. If it's not, upgrade to a progressive dynamics unit.

True, FR just puts an El Cheapo converter in. Found out the hard way on a trip to Quartzite. Mine just quit working so I had a bigger and better one installed with a 4 stage charging system. Now it only takes an hour or two to totally charge the batteries....

Since I have a 55amp converter now, when I upgrade should I get a higher capacity unit? It isn't much more to go to a 80amp unit.

Thanks,
Rick

You could certainly find a larger DC converter than the 55 amp that you have. In my experience, however, the real key is how close to the battery bank is the unit and what size is the wiring. On my 335, the 70 amp Progressive (with pendant that I added) is at least 22 feet from my 4 house batteries, the cables are #6 and they ran a neg and a pos, rather than using the chassis for the negative. These facts cost me at least 3/4 of a volt at max converter amperage (which I absolutely never see) so I get no more than 13.75 volts on the bank, which really extends charge time, even with the pendant.

My alternator, on the other hand, puts at least 14.3 on the bank and generates far more current than the converter.

In short, a really good converter can be poorly installed. If I upped it to 80 or 90 amps it wouldn't make a bit of difference since the max current right now is 30 amps anyway.

Good information, thank you. I think mine is less than 20' away, but I'll have to check that and the wire gauge.

Thanks,
Rick

I have 2 T-145's yes it's a tight fit, but I like the little extra capacity they offer.
