Bearings and seals spares

We own a 2018 Cedar Creek 34RE.

We would like to buy a set of bearings and oil seals.

How do I figure out sizes. 7 ton axle.

Wrote down the model number. Don’t know where I put it.

Is it possible Cedar Creek might know?

Get the axle number from the sticker on the axles.

Call Dexter with that number and they can look up the bearing numbers.

Or go to https://www.dexteraxle.com/ and look at the 600-8K Operation Maintenance Service Manual. Page 81 has a Bearing Replacement chart.

Let all of us know when you use the Bearings if you do buy them! In my 4 years of ownership of my Cedar Creek 34RL I have only used grease seals when the WHEEL BEARINGS are re-packed.

I bet you that when you sell your camper the bearings will still be in the original packing and stored some where in the back of the garage!

Just saying!

Just reflecting n a previous experience.

We were hauling a sailboat for a big race in lake Sinclair near Detroit.

One set of bearings shotb craps about 6 pm. We limped onto a nasty abandoned shopping center. Too late to do anything. So, we decided to sleep in the boat and figure out what to do. About 11 we got a knock on the hull.

A local cop asked us what the hell were we doing there!

We explained. He looked at us and said you are not in a good place.

I’ll pass by every half hour and get the next shift to do the same until you are outa here. Really good guy.

Since then I always carry spare bearings.

Mental likely. I will let you know when I use them. Sort of suspenders, a belt and a rope.

Spares

For what little a new set of bearings cost I keep a set in the camper. I hand pack my bearings every year but you just never know. Cheap insurance.

X2, but I take it a step further. I have never trusted repacking bearings. If a pitted bearing is missed on an inspection or dirt particle are left in the bearings, it could cause a failure. For the cost, I have just bought new bearings and seals, packed them and installed them. Just in case, I carry a spare set, grease to pack, and tools to change. Years ago, we had a bad experience with truck bearings right after getting it out of the shop.

Just like fire insurance on a home, we always hope to never need them, but one experience made me a believer. 1972, towing a boat trailer from NY to FL, I ended up with a toasted bearing at 5AM on a Sunday in Fair Play, SC.

Let's just say that the whole tale makes a great 5 minute campfire story.

Took a picture of the package of all bearings, seals, axle tags and backing plate numbers when I did my first service. Keep them all on my phone. Always carry a set of bearings and seals and tools just in case. We travel some pretty remote areas , that no one services .

So if you guys have the ezlube axles why would you manually repack the bearings? I think I’m missing something. But that’s not unusual.

Can't inspect bearings if you never pull them . or replace seals , recommend pulling and hand pack at least every 10,000 miles you can use the ez-lube between packs if you do it right

Old school. Trust what you can see. EZlube, too much grease, too little grease, dislodged seal, water/dirt intrusion, bearing rust/heat discoloration? Don't take chances.
