Bedroom Closet Is HOT!

I have a 2014 Silverback 37BH, which I use 100% for work. (Petroleum Landman) Anyway, I spend at least four nights a week in it, almost year round as my work keeps me on the road.

My bedroom closet, like many models, is located directly behind the front cap of my fifth wheel. We have had a mild summer so far (for Texas) and it's only recently gotten near the 100 degree mark. I have noticed this every summer, but didn't think to get input from this forum. It seems that there is no insulation up front.

Does anyone have the same problem, and if so, how can I mitigate it?

You might consider added insulation from Home Depot that could be seasonally velcro'd inside the highest areas of the cap getting the sun OR some reflective weather proof heat shield on the outside upper front portion to deflect heat ( not going to be pretty ) OR BOTH.
Keep closet doors open and buy 2 small high velocity fans, one for each side to keep air circulating.

common problem I'm sure. My Coachmen 5th wheel has a dark brown cap, so it's pretty bad. I'm going to install the 2nd ac in the bedroom since it makes the bedroom hard to cool. Might just have to leave closet door open, at least when the sun is shining on the cap.

It gets hot in the summer or cold in the winter because there is no air flow in the closet with the doors closed. There is no heating or cooling vents in a closet. So if you want your cloths to be more comfortable just leave the door open some.

2nd air runs 24 x 7 in this heat. Closet
still has DEAD AIR. Need a fan or 2 even w ac. And BTW, my 2011 Keystone had a light cap and front bunkhouse and it was hot in summer, cold in winter. Brown may draw heat but really it's all about the BUILD.
Leaving the closet open does help, BUT, if packed with clothes, no breathing room for air flow.
Another tip: even w 2 ac's ( for the oil worker ) when family is not there, I CLOSE bedroom slide and one LR slide when gone for the day. It reduces heat exposure and cools better. I set stuff so nothing to move; just push the buttons. Lv my heavy kitchen slide out.

Having 3 slides and only one AC for those temps will also make it hard for the AC to keep cool. As you found out closing sofme during the day helps. Later RJD

Clairification: SilverbackMel has dual AC. It's still HOT IN DA CLOSET.... Moral of the story:

Yep I got the 3 slides and 2 AC and yep still will get warm on very hot days. Later RJD

Every cap I have seen taken off only has cross members no insulation that I have seen yet. You might want to go to lowes or HD and pick up some of that silver insulation and put it against the back wall inside the closet, that might help. I think it's rated at R-9. Would be easy to cut and use spay glue by 3M to hold it up.

Our Cardinal was hot also. Removed the upper panel in the closet and stuffed a 50 foot roll of fiberglass insulation in the un insulated cap, a large handful at a time, problem solved. Ventilating the closet is not necessary.

Temp fix. Drape a large space blanket ( silver mylar) over the cap on really hot sunny days. You could add two small poles on bottom to hold away from 5er and create dead air space.

Our closet is hot also and we have 2A/C units I just keep the closet closed and the heat keeps the wrinkles out of our close. LOL we keep it 68 in the 5er and the closet is still hot. LOL

I just do not understand why they do not insulate that area?

Many have found that the front cap area is not insulated. There have been a few threads on the subject here. Not sure about your model bet the Columbus units have a shelf for shoes in the closet that is easy to remove and able to get to that area. Many have said it helps with temperature control as well as cutting down on noise. If you can get up there I highly recommend installing the insulation.

Yes, you are very correct, it is very apparent that they do not insulate the front caps as if you get into a cold area it will get very cold in the closet. The only best way I know of to fix the issue, is to pull the closet out and insulate the front caps, and then reinstall the closet. Or open the doors and get a small fan to push some air into the space, but since you are in Texas, and like most others in a hot or cold climate it will push a lot of hot or cold air into the bedroom.

Don't think any of them insulate the front cap area. My Heartland is hot in the front closet as well.

We have people in our group who have added a floor standing air conditioner and vented it out a window or the dryer vent works great and cheaper .
