Black tank flush Check Valve

Anyone know where I can find this. Blue water line goes through Bathroom floor above cargo bay and back to top of Black Tank. Has a leak in either the hose or the check valve. How do I access it to fix?

Thanks for any advice or directions.

Not familiar with your rig, but I would look in the vanity around or behind the bathroom sink.

If it's a leaker, do away with it and go to HD or Lowes and get a brass one for a house....cost more, but will never leak again..

Is there a cabinet or access panel inside where the flusher connection is located on the outside?

Each model unit can be different. Mine was in the back of the bathroom linen closet, midway up in the closet. There was a large hole in the back of the closet. I know it's called for by code but I rip it out. The leakage liability is just too much risk.

DO NOT remove the check valve (aka backflow preventer)! It's there to prevent anything nasty from the black tank from backing up to the potable water supply!

If you absolutely want to remove it from inside, use one on the connection port.

- never flush the blackwater tank with out an external check valve and never use a potable water source to flush. Any internal vented check valve can leak and destroy your trailer. Been there and had that happen, twice.

Most dump stations have a separate water source for flushing. I don't flush unless going into storage. I mean, otherwise I will just be filling the tank with more stuff anyway.

All, (Unless it is from a well with just it attached) so called "Non Potable" water at campground dump stations (or other dump stations for that matter,) comes from the potable water supply ... After it passes thru a Backflow Preventer . IMHO it is labeled as Non Potable due to your not knowing if the last to use it stuffed the hose into his black tank and contaminated the hose, hose Bibb, etc. As I have been plumbing for over 30 years it has been drilled into me that we plumbers protect the health of the nation and so removing a backflow assembly that is in place to protect you and your family is not the smartest thing to do, unless you place it somewhere else. The Air gap fitting that is used in the black flush line is a very cheap plastic fitting that should be replaced with a better assembly or relocated to where it can not do damage WHEN it leaks. Our new TT is the first to have this option and our air gap is under the kitchen sink. My plan is to remove it and add a 1/2" RPBA that I can hookup outside the trailer to flush the tank.
Much safer assembly than the existing air gap assembly health and leak wise.
Happy Camping

Dwilcox, I agree. I've been a specifier in the municipal water supply industry for over 20 years. The worst disaster we've seen up here in Canada was in Walkerton, Ontario where 7 people died and 2500 got ill from E. coli contamination at a well head. We're not talking about that extreme on this thread but just the thought of someone being careless and contaminating a water supply gives me shivers.

I'm looking at getting a Watts No. 7 dual check valve for my setup so it can be on the outside rather than hiding behind a panel. I'm not a plumber, but I think this should do the trick. What do you think?

irish01, I don't know about your rig but on our 2015 Columbus 320RS the line goes up through the storage compartment floor BEHIND the shower! To access it requires removing the water controls panel on shower wall and reaching in and to the right. It is attached with a plastic strap to a wood stud. What a pain!

That's the one.....I installed mine permanent just inside the outside wall, and did away with all the extra hose

Itat, the duel check should do the job, our health department would want a RP if they knew what was going on. I have heard thru the grape vine that the purveyors down here are looking at requiring RP'S on camp grounds because of the black tanks, and how they can't control how a camper flushes them with the potable water at the site. We see minor contamination all the time, unfortunately you need a body count for folks to sit up and take notice. Our job is to do what we can to keep, that from happening.

So forgive me for my ignorance but we never had a problem with our check valve in our previous trailer so didn't have a reason to learn about it. The check valve just needs to be between the water source and the trailer and thus can be installed internally or externally? So it only protects the water source but the internal rv plumbing can get contaminated?

They, back flow/check valve are installed to Protect the Incoming Water Supply from being Breached! This Black Tank Rinse System in your RV will NOT Contaminate your RV Fresh Water System! Youroo!! This is for Post # 16!

They are 2 separate systems. You would have to use your potable hose, contaminate it, then hook it up to your city water inlet. That is why you want to have a hose for black flush only. That includes rinsing the drain hose.

Sorry I misunderstood. I see now we are talking about the black tank flush system. I was reading where this valve is located under the bathroom sink or sometimes the kitchen sink and jumped to the conclusion that it was in the rv water plumbing system.
Is there also a similar check valve in the system that keeps water from filling the freshwater tank when hooked up to city water?
