CC Silverback 29RE towed with a gasser....

Are there any forum members towing a CC Silverback 29RE with a gas engine? I understand the vast majority of owners are using Diesel TV's and I fully understand that. I have a 2011 Chevy 2500HD, SRW, 6.0 gas, 4x4, 4:10 axle, Ext. cab with 18" wheels. We are not full timing or frequently tackling the mountains. After doing the math with the specs and ratings it is within ratings, but obviously not a lot of reserve.

While i don't have that camper, i did pickup my new Sabre 34TBOK, which weighed in around 12,600 and is 38' long, for our 900 mile trip back home. I pull with a 05 f250 V10 5 speed auto & averaged 7.5 mpg at 63mph. After speeding up to 76 to beat the incoming storm to our home, it dropped to closer to 6 and 4.5 if i let it shift down to 3rd on bigger holds.

Not an exact match, but gives you an idea. Overall i was very impressed with the handling and performance of my Ford.

Not sure the weight on your Silverback, which may not matter that much, but I pull a Crusader at 11300 with an F250 6.2 gas and it does fine. I'm getting 9+ mpg.

I have a Coachman Catalina 30BHS, 34.5ft and just a little lighter than yours. I pull it with 2013 F250 6.2 gasser. Our last trip last year the truck did awesome. Got 14.4 avg. on 150 mile trip.

We towed our 29re last year with a 2011 F-250 6.2L Gasser. The towing was fine, about 8 MPG. The problem we had was weight. After a trip to the scales we found we were within a couple hundred pounds of the trucks GVW and the pin weight was less then 15% of the trailer weight. We upgraded to a F-350 dually this spring.

While the F-250 was fully capable of pulling the trailer, I was just a bit too uncomfortable being that close to the edge, weight wise.

Our trailer had a factory weight of 10273, the truck weighted 7740 loaded for travel.

You're probably right that it's not filled up to the max. A great way to find out for sure is to fill it up (including water) as you 'normally' travel and get it weighed at a truck stop. Don't worry about not being a 'trucker' - they're friendly and will help you through the process.

I have a 2011 29RE that I tow with a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD with an 8.1L gasoline engine. That year they offered the 8.1L paired with the Allison transmission. It seems to have plenty of power for towing the 29RE. Regardless of the engine/transmission configuration the more important factor is probably the fifth wheel hitch weight carrying capacity of the truck. You will almost always max out on that first, and that capacity varies all over the place depending on make, model and model year. I have found that the other most critical factor with a gasser is finding fuel stops close enough together that have the room to pull my truck and the 29RE up to the gas pump with room to exit after filling.
