Cedar Creek Cathedral Ceiling Slide outs

I have done a ton of research on different brands and models of 5th wheels and I keep coming back to the Cedar Creek Silverback. All the research I have done shows that this is one of the best 5ers out there for the money. Very well constructed with very few issues. Quality looks to be second to none. The one question I have is the Cathedral Ceiling Slid outs, has any one had any issues with water leaks ? I realize that when it rains the water will run off easier than a flat top slide but how much water gets diverted towards the door as one of the Cathedral Ceiling slides is right next to the door. Any feed back would be great. Getting ready to pull the trigger it's just the matter which one, we are looking at the 29IK , 29RE and we also like the 31RK. Anyone out there with the 31RK pros and cons ?

Only in a good rain. If planning to keep the camper as I wanted too. Now the family is full timing in it would like to have a space for the son.

I think an awning topper could be made to fit between the the slide and awning. I was planning to talk to Old Coot about it. Whether a blind curtain type or permanent upright topper. Personally think the kind you could slide in place would be better. But I am not an engineer and wisdom is in the counsel of many.

Zero issues here. I like the cathedral design adds something and real opens up the rear and bedroom.

Go for it. You did your research. It is 'the one'...

The water channeling should not be a big issue at all.

The last place that I would be standing if it is raining is 'outside' by the front door.....

We have a 2014 31RK. Like the lay out, yes the water does come by the door and lands on the awning rail if out and splatters but you won't get that wet. Have had a few issues and if we had had a good dealer would have had no problem. Had bad dealer but FR gave us a name to fix things and he did Under warranty. Had problems with frig but got it fixed we think. Took a year but got the mother boards replaced and now is fine. Just make sure your dealer is good. They can find lots of reasons not to fix problems. Pulled ours to Texas and had no problems.

We are still deciding - Cost conscious the Cedar Creek 38RD but we are trying to justify the Cardinal 3825RL if a few changes can be made

I believe this is a Cedar Creek not a Silverback unit so you will not have the Cathedral Celling in it.
Also will try and tow the CC38RD with the F150 in your signature?

I have heard about that complaint from dealer of another brand. I just think it is sour grapes. We have ordered the Silverback 33IK. Check it out in your list. We like the arrangements of theater seating looking straight across to the entertainment center. Maybe OC will have a temporary solution like a removable gutter that you could attach on after the slide is out and could easily be removed before closing the slide. We just don't plan on going outside if it is raining. We had more problems with a rear door on our Wildcat and the wind was blowing in the right direction. One of the minor reasons for the center door.

Making too much of a minor inconvenience. Our 2015 33rl is just fine. You adapt. First it has to be raining to beat the band. Next, you have to NEED not to wait a minute for rain to lighten up. Our unit was a first 2015 build and we love it.

Ps: I would be more concerned with front cap sun fade. Ours was JUST redone under warranty. Now the question is: will it hold up past year 2? Hope the fix does the trick.

Our 2014 CC 29RE Silverback is great .....Do not have to worry about puddleing of water on top.....All slides will have a certain amount of moisture when bringing slide in during wet weather......If forecast calls for rain the day we are leaving we usually bring 2 slides in the night before bed & drivers side.......It has to be a really heavy down pour to get wet on the steps going in or out......

The rain water coming off of the slides is a non issue! We have had a 2010 RE and upgraded to a 2013 RL. We have not had any leakage on the slides however as it is with any slideout, it would sure be nice if there could be a little "eave trough" to divert the rain water over the slide windows. The cathedral ceilings give a much more roomy feeling. We have towed this unit for approximately 20K miles and still have the OEM tires on it. If you have the option, I would highly recommend the Trail Air hitch system as it makes an incredible difference in towing on even the rough interstate highways. A lot of the RV "bounce" on the hitch is reduced.

I appreciate the comment. Our new 33IK will have the Trail Aire hitch. We saw them on some of the models at the Frog rally and heard that they were welcome option.

Hi,

We have put about 7,500 miles on our 2014 Silverback 33RL, and have lived in it for a total of about 90 days already.

We have not had any problem with rain and the slides. Yes, water drains off the slide by the door, but we've never seen it cascade so far out that it would give you a shower going out the door. Bring the slides in while raining, and most of the water is squeegied off by the seals. As a precaution though, when we pull them in when very wet, we put towels down on the floor at the ends of the slides, so that water doesn't continue to drip down on the floor.

The interior space of the living area and bedroom are visually (and I would say vastly) improved by the cathedral effect. It's a fine design element.

Now if the factory would only provide a decent radio antenna, and isolate the refrigerator cooling fan so it didn't vibrate and make that annoying noise on hot afternoons and evenings. My dealer is working on something, but it sure would be so much easier for them to come out of the factory without such obvious frailties.

The issued posed by the original poster is interesting as we were recently planning to trade our '01 Cardinal for a '12 Silverback 29RL down at Lazy Days RV in FL. When we got to the dealership, after traveling about 100 miles to get there, they informed us that while prepping the '12 29RL they discovered water damage in all three slides. I personally didn't get to see this damage, but as you can imagine we didn't purchase that unit. I was wondering how the water damaged all 3 slides though.

In the end we ended up buying a '15 Silverback 29RE anyway and lived in it at our FL campground for the whole month of March. We experienced several good rains while having the slides out and never had a problem with moisture inside or around the slides themselves. I didn't notice any cascading of water near the door either.

Of the three models mentioned in the original post (29IK, 29RE, 31RK) the only one my OCD would allow me to buy would be the 29RE. I don’t think I could deal with a cathedral ceiling slideout on one side and flat roof slide on the other like the IK and RK have. I really love the cathedral ceilings and I hope Cedar Creek doesn’t do away with them.

Hi,

I have to say the cathedral roofline in the bedroom was an unexpectedly pleasant feature. We both like to sit in bed and read, and it is so nice to not have the ceiling down low over your head. Even leaning in to make the bed is more convenient, when a big guy like me doesn't have to think about ducking low to avoid smacking your head.

We have been fulltime in our 2013 33rl in Southern Florida since August of last year. The only thing I had to do add a bedroom air conditioner. (its hot down here) When it rains here it is a downpour and never had a problem. We really enjoy our Silverback. Hope you enjoy yours also.

Sitting in our 2014 Silverback 33RL right now in a heavy down pour at Bull Shoals/White River State Park in northcentral Arkansas......I'm not opening the door to find out....LOL!!.....just kidding....have never noticed an issue with water in that area....the awning stops next to that slide and I think as much of our drips comes from the awning as from the slide.

[Chuckles] ahh, nope Jim - the F150 gets traded in when we decide to pull the trigger on the 5er upgrade (the F150 goes away for a RAM 3500 Laramie diesel dually)
