Comparing 2012 with 2015 36CKTS

Anybody know what structural difference is between the 2012 36CKTS and the 2015 36CKTS? My dry weight is 13,235 lbs and my CCC is 2,108 lbs. The dry weight of the 2015 model is 12,230 and the CCC is 4,270 lbs. So, if the dry weight is less than mine, FR probably did not beef up the frame. Yet, it will hold 2162 pounds more than mine. How did they do that?

Excellent poser for the A+ crowd Joe. Over a ton is a huge difference. So you can most likely account for 1/2 of the gain with the shedding of dry weight. That coveres a multitude of items that could have contributed to the diet.

The 2nd half must come from a higher structural rating. So if you narrow the scope of the structure to only those parts that could increase capacity by the 1000# number, I would think you would be left with frame and suspension which may include brakes.

That does not mean that there were changes. It could just be a higher rating. Kind of like how the pick up manufacturers magically come up with their numbers.

Soooo, the real Q is; Is 2+ tons enough CCC for a full timer?

I think you hit the nail on the head, Duck. Just like the pickup manufacturers, I think they changed the rating without changing the vehicle. I have the same tires and 7000 lb axles. I have "never adjust" brakes, just as the new ones state. I don't know the capacity of the brakes, since they don't provide that data.

The 2011 pin box was rated for 15,500 lbs.
The 2013 pin box was rated for 18,000 lbs.
I don't have a 2012 brochure.
It is specified in the brochure under "Exterior Features".

I think that was the change. The GVWR could not exceed the rating of the pin box.

Does anyone have the 2012 brochure, to check the pin box rating?

Using wayback.org site (which I love to find historical things on the internet), and a date of January 9, 2012, it states the pin box is 15,500 like the 2011.

However, it also states different specs from the OP, so FR may not have had the correct specs on their website...or the OP had more features added than the standard, which may be the big difference. Remember, the more options you add, it takes away from cargo capacity and adds to shipping/dry weight.

The listed specs are for a standard equipped RV. Depending on what package and/or extra options you have factory installed, will affect your ccc and dry weight on the factory tag per individual RV.

EX: A trailer with one A/C is not going to be as heavy as one with an optional second A/C.

GVWR is the magic static number. This is how much your axles, tires, frame etc can carry. GVWR = Dry weight + Cargo carrying capacity. You can put more axle/tire and up the GVWR, thus also upping the CCC.

I do not think the pin box is the determining factor as the vast majority of 36CKTS units have the TrailAir L-05 pin box which is rated at 18k lbs. Having that on my '12 did not change the weight numbers.

Looks like Duckogram and Joe GA had/have an "Early" 2012, probably made before ~ Jan 1 2013 with the 15500 pin box.

It seems major changes are made part way the model year, somewhere around Jan 1. For example the newer front cap on the Silverback was introduced part way through the 2014 model year.

The brochure link posted by wmtire (above) says 2012 pinbox = 15500 and the specs provided from brochure by cbvp say 2012 pinbox = 18000. Early model and late model within the same model year.

You can look at the bottom of the last page of a brochure for a date. Is the year before the model year (early model) or the same as the model year (late model).

Progress (new features) is good when you get it and not so good when you are a bit early to get it.

You spend your money and take your chances.

Joe, I agree 2108 lbs cargo capacity is not enough.

When comparing actual weight stickers to brochure weights, it is common to see they actually are 1000 lbs or more heavier than what the brochure says.

I wonder if the weight difference is the options only or also the "mandatory options" like the Explorer Package in 2012.

The Cargo Carrying Capacity Sticker on my 2013 36CKTS with a manufacture date of 06/11/2012 reads as follows.

Dry weight=12,545
Weight cargo should not exceed=2,798
