Considering upgrading to 8k axles and 17.5 in tires advice

I own a 2017 Cedar Creek 38 el. Considering the above change and disc brakes as well. Would appreciate any advice.

I have a 38EL also. Curious if you're having problems with your current 7K/16" setup?

I have had no problems. I am concerned because the only 16 inch ST tires I've been able to locate are Chinese. I also noticed that then newest floor plan for the champagne edition was released with 17 1/2 inch tires on 8K axles. I am wondering if this upgrade would give me an extra margin of safety. Right now I am just trying to gather data.

Only the first of those fully supports a 7,000 lbs. axle weight ratings. I personally want more rubber than axle rating.

If you're looking at this major of a change, look at:
Mor/ryde Independent Suspension
Disc brakes (hydraulic over electric)
17.5" rims and commercial trailer tires

If I planned to keep this rig long term, I'd go with the Mor/ryde in a heartbeat. Since I'm still not positive, I only opted for the 17.5" tires:

Thanks for all of the information. It's exactly the sort of data I need to make a decision. I posted here before I talked to my dealer. The experiences of this site's members is more important to me than information from a salesperson.

If you're looking at going through all of the time and expense you might consider the MorRyde IS also, here's a link;

I am going to get the MorRyde IS with Disc brakes soon, they give a discount for getting it installed during the winter months, it takes two days for the install. around $5500 for 7K and $6200 for 8K

W5Cl where will you having your work done please? From the feedback, MorRyde is definitely what I need to be looking at.

You get Mor Ryde directly from Mor Ryde. I don't think there are any other places that can install their IS system.

The MorRyde factory is in Goshen, IN. and their service center is located at the factory. They have 2 bays where they install the IS suspension. When I had my IS installed, they even let me stay in the camper overnight. The whole crew really know what they are doing and are very friendly and professional. I had the IS, disc brakes, 17.5 rims and tires, and a new pin box installed in less than 2 days.

According to their website, MORryde has 2 other "certified installers" of the IS system. One in Colton, CA and the other in Grants Pass, OR.

Axle Upgrade

During sixty years of driving I have never seen a fifth wheel on the side of the road with a broken axle. Has anyone seen this? Flat tires yes, many.

Thanks again for all of the replies. I have contacted Mr. Wheeler at MorRyde and he has been very helpful. Not sure what I am going to do yet but have lots more information to work with.

Brady, we have a 2013 36CKTS which came equipped with Dexter 7K axles and drum brakes. Having owned other 5ers with Lippert chassis I was very uncomfortable with that setup, so first off we upgraded to Morryde's Independent suspension, 17.5 H rated tires and Kodiak disc brakes. We have put a lot of miles on our RV since the installation and have done so without issues and peace of mind knowing that the IS/disc brake combo installation overcame any weak points in Lippert's chassis suspension. All said & done, we are thrilled with that modification, only wish that Craig at Cedar Creek would allow the customer (who BTW pays good money for the FR/CC product) to upfit the chassis before it starts the CC manufacturing process, thus allowing this type of mod to become a part of the finished product instead of an "aftermarket" modification. Hope this helps.
