A SWAG would be 3/32" or 1/8" x 2"

Just take one key out and take it an auto parts store, etc for replacement.
In aviation,we always were taught to use safety wire size so it filled 2/3 of the drilled hole - same thing with cotter keys if you can't get exact replacement size although I'm pretty sure the axle cotter pin is a standard size.

We used safety wire at Lockheed on the MLRS, HIMARS & the PAC3 missiles and the holes were, generally speaking, 3/32" dia and the safety wire was stainless steel 0.032-inch, 0.041-inch, although once in a while 0.020-inch on really small parts.
Sorry for hijacking the thread.

Same with us although .041 wasn't too common and we used .064 in some heavy duty areas.
Used the thin stuff for safetying cannon plugs until the DC-10 came out - most of the cannon plugs on that bird are self locking.

No problem - BTW I should of said in my first reply not to pull your RV with a cotter key removed.

Altho' I have always used cotter pins, on the 'lube thru' the end axles' it would be easier to use two or three strands of safety wire due to the offset hole. I just never went back in the garage and got the wire and pliers to do it. Another case of laziness.

Or treat it like a Ford or Dodge and use baling wire or a coat hanger.

I'll have you know I never used a coat hanger or baling wire, duct tape works as well and acts like a dust cap at the same time.

Kinda hard to get duct tape in the cotter pin hole. I didn't know a Ford could run without baling wire. Coat hangers are probably too much of a long term fix for a Ford, they don't rust fast enough.

Seems to me you were the one that said you used duct tape, not me.

No, I said it's kinda hard to poke it in a hole. Kinda hard to keep the nut on using duct tape as a dust cover. So, I just assumed you being a Ford guy you had figured out how to do it because you couldn't find any baling wire.
