Do I really need a slider?

So, I am shopping for a hitch to pull my new 33IK and have settled on a Trailersaver BD3, my question is do I need a slider. I am towing with a 2015 2500 HD Chev the box is 78.8 inches ( 6 1/2 ft) any input from those of you with this unit would be greatly appreciated.

Better to have it and not need it than
to need it and not have it
i had a super glide in my 6.5 bed
and used it all the time turning around in the side yard

I would also go with the slider. Been pulling 5th wheels for over 20 years and maybe used it 4 times. But I was sure glad I had it then.

Question, I don't have a truck or fifrh wheel. Don't know anything about towing such but want to learn since it could be in our future. What exactly is a slider and how does it help in certain situations?
Thanks.

We have a 2006 2500 Silverado and a slider was necessary for the crew cab. We recently purchased a TT and have our Super Glide complete system for sale at $400. I Live in N.California

A lot depends on how you drive! If you come out a truck stop one time with a steep exit and a tight turn just a hair to fast or too sharp, you will have spent a lot more than the cost of a slider. I have one never, used it, and also came out of a truck stop a little too fast and to sharp.

We have a slider and use it every time we return home from a weekend out. We have a long curvy driveway that hubby has to back down. He says it really helps him. I agree that it is better to have and not use regularly instead of needing it and not having it...resulting in damage to your camper and/or truck.

I've been towing a 5th wheel with a pullrite superglide since 2007. That's when I downsized from a LWB 1 ton dually to a SWB SRW 3/4 ton PU. Only "had to have it" a couple of times, but worry free driving and turning has been priceless. I wouldn't consider anything less that a fully automatic slider with a SWB truck!

I would definitely recommend an automatic slider like the Superglide.

Short bed pickups usually have cab to trailer interference in tight turns. It will bite you sooner or later and that will cost you more than the hitch price difference. Better to have the piece of mind.

I bought mind after several close calls.

As they say there are those who have and those who will.

It all depends on what's on your trailer. I have a Revolution on the trailer, a Reese Titan 16K in the bed and a 6.5' box. I have turned this puppy 90 degrees with no problems. It turns under the trailer and not in the box. It is like having a slider.

Just my 2 cents worth.. I see you're going to pull this 5 ver with a 3/4 ton pickup. Added weight is your enemy, I know, look at my badge, I have the same RV. I looked at the Pullrite and it along with the collar you have to add to your 5ver pin weigh about 300lbs. That is about 150lbs more than the unit you are looking at. Trust me, you will be towing heavy so 150 lbs is a big deal.

I ended up going with a 16K Reese slider. About 150lbs, manual slide when I need it, so far I have not. If in doubt, pull it out. Hitch works well, no chuckle and easy to use...

If you mount the hitch on your tailgate, you will have plenty of room to turn, plus the bed of your truck will be usable. Course, trying to close the tailgate maybe a different story.
