Direct Spark Ignition (or Ignitor)---it's for the propane part of your water heater....and you turn/leave the switch on to use the water heater off of propane.

The DSI is a 12 volt ignitor that makes the sparks to ignite the propane. Takes the place of the old fashioned pilot lights.

P.S. make sure you have water in the water heater before turning on the switch.
