Exhaust Vent

Our new CC has the range exhaust vent about 9' off the ground requiring a ladder to lock and unlock it. Prior 5er had the vent about 6' which was within arms reach.

Trying to avoid hauling a ladder with me. Any issues with me keeping the vent open during travel? It's stored in an enclosed building so no need for me to worry about bugs and stuff.

Unlocked ours 9 months ago when we brought it home, made a note to put some window screen in it and leave it open. It's still on my list of things to do !

Exhaust Vent

Ours blew off during our first 1,000 mile trip. Some wind issues in the mountains. I know now I should have latched it after use. Have had a heck of a time trying to get a replacement. Called the dealer that I bought it from, another local dealer and the factory. They tell me they will get back to me. No response after 2 weeks. Customer service can be an oxymoron. Will keep trying.

Appreciate the replies.

On our upcoming trip I'm going to leave it unlatched. It cannot open much....may 1/2" and it's protected so I don't see issues with road grime getting into it (not at 8 feet up anyway).

Suggestion to FR....if you are going to place the vent this high, perhaps there is a way to latch and unlatch from the inside. Like have a rod connected to the flap that you push or pull from the inside to open/close. Or if you want to get real fancy, a small 12v motor that opens and closes when the fan is turned on/off.

We carry a small folding stool that I use to reach the vent on our trailer when we set up and break down camp.

Exhaust vent pole

We bought a telescoping boat dock pole and use the rubber tip to press up to latch/unlatch our vent hood door on our 34IK. Also marked the pole with the slide out extended length, so the DW can spot me backing in trailer next to shoreline power box. The marking on the pole is like a yardstick to indicate we will have room to safely extend street side of the RV slide out. We like to have our rig setup closer to the utility box to have more space on curb/entry side for chairs and awning cover over the pavement or gravel campsites,.

I keep it open, have not had any issues but I do keep the vent open so there is no negative pressure.

I pretty much open mine the day I get it and leave it that way until I sell it. Never had a problem.
