Extended warranty

We are going through our walk through on Friday. The dealer is selling extended warranties for up to 7 years. Is the extended warranty worth it? It seems like there are a lot of things that can go wrong. But we have purchased extended warranties before and never used them.

It's more of a peace of mind thing. Our dealer offered the same thing. Looking at what hourly labor costs are (not just to fix but to troubleshoot) and the price of parts (), we decided to get our 7 year warranty.

My philosophy here was "Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it." YMMV

We didn't get an extended warranty, but in hindsight I wish we would have extended the factory one. Between some of the odd construction issues I've found on ours and some of the problems I've been reading that others have had with their new campers, I would extend it for at least a year or two. The RV industry is running at 110% - there are going to be errors.

Personally, I would not get an extended warranty from the dealer, but would buy the second year warranty from Forest River directly for $250.00. You have 10 days from pick up of trailer to send form.

We purchased the second year warranty from Forest River and used it several times.

NO! Buy the extension from Forrest River For $150 or $200 for another year. Forget the Extended service contract. It's not a warranty, it's an insurance. If you read the fine print you will see it covers a lot less that the factory warranty...It may say it's for 7 years but it won't start until your factory warranty runs out. So now it's 5 or 6 years. To me they are a rip-off..

Buy the Forest River extended warranty! I did and the first winter I took my trailer in and had one semi-major problem and several smaller issues. This past winter was my second year and I took it in to them again. This time there were just three small issues. No charges, hassles or baloney. Can't beat the second year factory warranty. We have sold that camper and are picking up a new one Thursday and you can bet we will be buying the second year warranty. Thanks to all the people on this forum that talked about this two years ago. Had it not been for this forum I would not have known about it.

Well that sucks 😞. Kinda like GM offering on a Cadillac but not a Chevrolet...you should be able to pay for it like every other - just MHO

Has anyone used the extended warranty on a problem? Has anyone tried to use and been denied?

Posted this: http://www.forestriverforums.com/for...tml#post336547 over a year ago. Everything still applies except contact names.
I used this for 3 issues during the second year and it paid for itself.
Nuff said.

because PT was not one of the original FR brands and was a recent acquisition, during the recent recession.
along with Shasta, Coachmen, Dynamax which were also rescued brands.

FR basically kept whatever warranty length the brand had before the acquisition.
and these brands are not considered a Forest River brand but are under the Forest River Corporation umbrella.
that's why they all are listed separately on the Corporate website:

Forest River Inc., A Berkshire Hathaway Company | RVs, Park Models Trailers, Commercial Buses, Commercial Trailers, Pontoons

Extended warranty is a money grab invented by dealers to squeeze more money out of their customers !
I NEVER buy them, on nothing I buy.

We never do on anything else but it was our only option on the new Crusader so we took it - did not take the full high dollar version and hope we never have to use it and will only have to lament the $$ spent for nothing - 👍
