Fading cap. No CC Help

Back in November I contacted Kelly Ware to see if Cedar Creek would provide any assistance regarding the fading front cap on my 2015 Hathaway Edition 5th wheel. Last week I got the response that CC had “changed their policy “ and would no longer participate in this kind of repair or replacement. Has anyone else heard of this? Any other suggestions for contacts at factory or sources of help?

Kelly Ware needs to learn how to talk to customers. I had a different issue and received almost exactly the same response. We are or should say were considering another cedar creek and scared to do so with responses like that.

I'm new to CC with a 19.5 Silverback 33IK and I know this response is not what you hoped for. I see the caps fading on a lot of 5th wheels, most brands. Reading this forum, it is pretty clear that this issue, front and back endcap fading has cost CC a lot of money. When I look at campers, 5th wheels, RV's, & fiberglass boats, they all seem to begin to fade after enough sun and weather exposure. On this forum you read about many no cost replacements under warranty and even years pass warranty. My guess is that CC may be facing the fact that fiberglass gel-coat & paint fade over time and maybe at some point they have to stop the bleeding. May also be part of reason they have dropped the rear end cap on the Hathaway.

The way they need to stop the bleeding is to make a change to increase the quality. You spend 60k it is unacceptable especially after 4 years for your unit to be faded. Stopping making excuses, agreeing to pay for some people's repairs, and just make corrections/changes

Im betting that CC doesn't make their own caps. They are probably dealing with the same vendor that all the other manufacturers are.


Seeing the comment that the vendor will not participate in helping them resolve the issue, sounds to me like their supplier told them to pound sand.

Even if CC owned the process and made their own caps, and made corrections/changes, that doesn't do anything for those who already have faded caps.

I guess at some point a company has to draw a line in the sand. Do you draw that line at 3 years? 4 years? 10 years? How do you explain to the guy who is just past that arbitrary line? Or the person who claims he has religiously cleaned, waxed and protected his trailer, stored it under a covered area when not in use etc...

It sucks, I get it. My Lacrosse cap began fading right after my 12 month warranty expired. Primetime told me they extended that warranty to 36 months, specifically for the cap fade. So, got mine repainted for free. But if it would have been at 37th month, I would have been out of luck. Is that fair? Not sure, but somewhere a line has to be drawn. Sounds like they've done just that.

I don't know how everyone one else feels but if my 60k truck paint faded with no compassion I would turn to a different mfg. But maybe 60 k is no big deal to some.

I'd probably do the same thing. But that's different than expecting the manufacturer to extend a warranty for an undetermined period of time.


From what I've read overall, CC (and Primetime) and other brands have overall done a pretty reasonable job of fixing a lot of this under warranty, but can you really expect it to go on forever?

Do we even know if OP is the original owner of the 2015 CC? Should that matter?

I was lucky, I bought my 2016 Surveyor in early summer 2017, so it was on the dealer's lot for a year. When I called to make the appt for my mv inspection in 2018, I had noticed of the front cap fading and complained about it. The dealer had me send some photos, within 2 weeks they called and had me make an appointment to take it to a body shop, I had to wait for the decals to come in, but got it all done. I guess it's not covered after the one year warrenty.

I had the same fading on the Rockwood I owned. CC is painting caps now. I agree better quality is required across all brands that use a "build for this cost" model of business to increase quality. As far a bleeding for the cost of fixing defective product just do it right the first time. Other manufacturers do this are very successful with taking market share from Cedar Creek once revered one of the best, now much lower quality than others.

While I may be mistaken, it seems to me that the real issue here is if a manufacturer/seller can change their warranty retroactively, which appears to be what CC is doing. In my opinion, it does not matter who actually manufactured the caps, as when assembled to the rest of the body, they became an integral part of the RV, therefor, the RV manufacturer's problem.

Likewise, the fading or discoloration issue could well be rooted in the use, or in the non-use of an appropriate "UV Package" in the gel coat or paint. Again, the RV manufacturer's problem if painted, and the cap manufacturer's if installed as received.

They 0nly flaw in what you are saying is that the warranty is only one year and before now they have been doing it as good will after the one year I believe

I have had the same problem on my front cap.I ended up resurfacing it my self .you can see how on you tube under gelcoat repair on boats its the same process .its a lot of hard work but it can be done.after I finished I used a good mcquires sealer on it. it looks great.

My 2016 Prime time Spartan 1032 fifth wheel front cap is fading. I was looking at a product called Vivilon. I think it is some kind of clear coat. Has anybody on here used this product? It expensive but would be less than having it painted.

Know it's not the answer you're looking for. But these products brought the life back on my previous trailer.

To get my front cap repainted I paid $1966.00. Looks like a brand new camper

Too bad the rv industry doesnt have recalls. The faded cap issue is a known issue and the caps were changed in 2018 to correct it. Amongst other things that are known issues that required future changes. The mfg should put a notice out that if you experience one of these issues it would be replaced. That would make a lot of people feel more comfortable and not alone with these type of issues.

They do have recalls. Unfortunately most/all are safety related
