In 11 years I have only tried a cover once and that was for about two months. Thats how long it took to fall apart. It was one of my worst mistakes. Hassle to put on, take off, difficuly to access the trailer. Much prefer to wash and wax it to keep it looking good.
I have one on my current bumper pull, and it does a great job. Above the camper parking spot are trees, oaks.....and pines.......and sweet gums. All cause problems for the skin of a camper.
My cover does what it's supposed to, cover it up........keep it clean........and one zipper accesses it.
But..a 40' fifth wheel is a whole 'nuther story.
Just wondering. I can't put a carport up........at least not yet.........and I might not even live there another 2 years! So a cover is about my only option.
No cover here way to much wind, FW sits broadside to the prevailing winds.

I live in Kansas where the WIND is near constant. No matter how spiffy a device came on the cover to secure it, or how innovative I was in securing it ... pieces of the cover ended up in Nebraska somewhere. The corners, although having soft backing wore the paint off the extrusion sealing the cap to the roof in places. I think it all boils down to where you park your RV. I built an RV port.
The right cover, prep work and properly securing the cover can make a huge difference.
Chicagoland is darn windy, think we rate 12th in the nation for winds.
First cover I had lasted 1 season and got torn up. My PermaPRO has held up great and no damage to the camper. Normally I dont recommended products, but this is a good one.
Always covered my 5er in winter. Cover lasted longer than the trailer. I traded and use the cover for my tt for a year till I bought a new one. Later RJD
