FINALLY, New Silverback Owner

Well, we finally received our 33ik . Got it 2 weeks ago, and immediately proceeded to get it ready to go. But, we are in South Louisiana, right in the middle of the disastrous flooding. We are one of the few fortunate folks in our area that didn't have water in the house. The Silverback is under cover in our RV building, and we are chomping at the bits to take it somewhere. Guess we might have to camp in the yard until things straighten out a bit. There's plenty to do in the meantime, helping the less fortunate folks. I will report after the first trip, concerning how things went with the camper. However, it looks good so far.

Congrats on the new Silverback. I hope you have as much good luck and great camping trips as we have had with our unit.

Congratulations from NE Arkansas!!!!!.....I think the 33IK took the place of our 33RL in the Silverback line....You will love it as we have ours....many happy and safe travels once you get rolling....However, take care of those Louisiana folks first!!!!

We are interested in the 33ik so I was just looking at the specs on the 33ik, should be same as 33rl, and noticed that the pin weight almost exceeds the payload on our 2012 GMC 2500hd which is 2264. What did you do to be able to tow this 5th wheel?

We have a 2500HD as well and are looking at the Silverback 37RL

We will be upgrading to a 3500 dually before we change campers though since our 2500 will not be enough truck

Congrats!

We've got an early model 2016 33IK - LOVE IT! I needed a new truck and opted for a Silverado 3500HD crew cab single rear wheel. Pulls like a charm, don't even know it's back there. Have a great time in your new rig.

First, is yours a diesel or gas???....We tow with a 2012 GMC 2500HD Diesel Z71 SLT 4WD Crew Cab, DuraMax/Allison, 3.73 axle ratio....I have added Firestone Airbags to the rear axle to stabilize the ride and run with the 5er hooked on with 40-50 psi in the airbags.....my truck manual allows for a max pin weight of 3500 lbs or 25% of the trailer weight which in my case would be 3235 lbs and I'm at 2980 lbs....The max GCWR is 24500 lbs and I'm at 21700 lbs....the max trailer weight is 15800lbs and I'm at 12940 lbs with the Silverback loaded....I have never seen this 3/4 ton struggle to tow our Silverback33RL, so far.

AJbaber, the 33ik pin weight might be on the edge of the limit, but we have had absolutely no problem. The 33ik pulls like a dream, and the 2500 diesel doesn't even know it's there. I have the 4x4 2500, and the truck handles it with ease. The weight of the 33ik barely moves the truck. Before the Silverback I was pulling a 38 ft. Stoneridge with even bigger pin weight. Took it all over the country with no problems at all. Quite frankly, I think it's a non issue, unless the 2012 is a lot different than the 2014 2500 HD.
As for the camper, we love it. Just haven't been able to take it on a trip yet.

2; 36 + Ft fivers, Keystone now Cedar Creek Silverback 33rl; towed Keystone across the USA and back, never knew rv was there except by looking in rear view mirror! Seamless, level and great ride.
I do have the best TRAIL AIR pin box.
Truck:
2008 Dodge SLT 2500
6.7 turbo Cummins

We built our 2015, 33rl. Likely will post it all soon for sale. We bought the rear living to be in Central FL winters. ( live in Atlanta)
Daughter and family JUST MOVED to St Augustine. We are not, nor have been full timers. At age 73; reality has us looking at FL condos close to family. Watch for posts next week.
This will be a GREAT deal on a unit that has NO issues. RV or truck.

Have not figured a " fair " priced to sell price. But I will next week.

Stay tuned or pm me on specific questions.

33RK 2016 and love it. Biggest problem I have encountered so far is the driver. Otherwise, everything has been great. Tows easy on my F250 Diesel and our only complaint is we don't need this much room. I sleep great in the bed, the w/d was a great upgrade and the double a/c will take her down to 65 degrees at night.

Buy an induction hot plate and you will be complete.

33IK

I am new to the Forum as we are just getting ready to purchase a 33IK and a truck. We've pulled a Jayco pop-up for many years but retirement means we need to move up to some creature comforts as we hit the rod for long stretches at a time.

I have lead on a nice 2015 Chev Silverado 2500HD with a 6 1/2 foot bed. Will I need a sliding hitch?

What are the pros and cons of the 6 1/2 foot bed versus the 8 foot beside the obvious need for a sliding hitch.

If we get this done soon we will see you all out there.

Buying the truck

Two things:

1. The new caps are designed for short bed radius turns. You do not need a slider. Experience: same length bed on my Dodge 2500. 2015 Silverback 33rl.
Some tight areas over past 2 years NEVER used my slider. My 2012 Keystone Outback 5er was NOT designed as such, therefore the reason I even own one.

2. GREAT DEALS ARE BACKED BY DEALER SERVICE RECORDS. Critically important on diesel. Service is big bucks and fewer techs around if you break down.
Don't ask me how I know!

Pulling a 2014 Silverback 33RL(basically same unit as a 33IK with a few interior design changes).....Pull with a 2012 GMC 2500HD with 6 1/2 foot bed....was pulling with a slider but have changed back to a stationary hitch.....did not need the slider....as SilverbackMel said the design of the front cap allows for this bed on tight turns.

If you're considering a bed cover for the TV, probably will want some style of roll up cover.

BTW....welcome from NE Arkansas to the forum....tons of good people with good information.

New Silverback

I have a 33IK Silverback on order and can't wait for it to come in. Can you tell me if the Cedar Creek Silverbacks come with a remote for lights, etc., like the cedar creeks?

Truck bed cover

silverbackmel loves his Roll n Lock cover for 2 reasons:

* rolls up ( one hand - spring loaded) very ez within its own canister with built in drain to minimize water retention.

* not only rolls, but locks with a built in REAL LOCK. Important when using the truck for golf or just shopping. Your stuff is secure. When nothing but the hitch in it, simply leave it unlocked.

I just looked at the web site and unfortunately I do not see a "remote" listed. Generally the factory shouts out ANY convenience inclusion.

Go to: www.forestriverinc.com and drill down to your 33ik or any unit under Silverback. Pretty darned spot on!

It was very accurate on my 2015 33rl we had built to our mods.

I would rather have the new quiet air than any option. You lucky camper!!😖
