Gas Fire Pit and Awnings

Thinking about getting a small propane fire pit. I've read of people using these under awnings and wondering.....is that ok? I mean....heat rises and yes there are no embers flying around but wondering if they put out that much heat to melt or burn awnings. My little common sense says not a good idea but maybe I'm over thinking it. Thoughts?

I use ours in our Clam screen tent that is much shorter than your camper's awning. We've done it with the sides open (like shown) and with them mostly closed (with just the small square windows open).

I know it's not great for the fabric, but the toasty warm feeling makes it worthwhile.
