Going back to 5th wheel from class c

Just traded our Freelander 26RS class c in on 2019 a Cedar Creek Silverback 29IK. Comming off line 8/15. Not new to 5th wheel ownership, owned a 2004 Carraige Cameo 35ft before buying 2 Freelanders. So am looking for any info on this model Silverback from owners. Also any info on the brand of tire they are using , Westlake ST 235X85 R16, suppose to be a 14 ply radial tire. Also on the lippert auto level-up system. Any input would be appreciated.

I can't answer your question but have one. Why back to the 5er? I went form a class A to the TT because my style of camping took a big change. just wondering.

I've read good and bad about the Westlakes. I had them on our 35IK and just replaced them with Sailun S637. The Westlakes didn't give us any trouble but being 3 years old by the date code, I didn't want any trouble either. We have too many weekend trips and a trip to Kentucky planned this year. If I had out to go again, I'd buy did one of 2 things. Force the dealer to install the Sailuns or install them myself and sell the Westlakes. 4 Sailuns were $515 delivered from Simpletire.com and $100 to install locally. I think you could easily sell the Westlakes for $200.

I like the Westlake G rated tire that Cedar Creeks are coming with. The tires on my unit will be four years old this year, the date code on the tires range from 4814 to 1115. I plan on replacing them next year. You do need to take care of the tires. I keep them cover 90% of the time and I use Meguiar's M40 Mirror Glaze Vinyl and Rubber Cleaner and Conditioner on my tires every other month when using the trailer.

I also have the Lippert 6-point auto level system on my trailer. Read the manual and make sure that you understand the operation procedure. I also wipe down the hydraulic rams every time I retract them with a silicone spray. Using a rag that I spray the silicone on to. This keeps the grit from damaging the seals and prevents the seals from drying out. Do not use WD40 this is not a lubricant it is a water dispersal product.

The Westlakes on my camper are just over 2 years old with no problems at all. I've only had to add maybe 5 pounds of air to 2 tires since new. Love the Lippert 6 point auto level

I have a new 34rl2 with westlakes. Did not know what to think about them till this past weekend. Traveling to Dallas car in front swerved and there was a 24ft extention ladder. Hit it at 67mph no blowout checked air pressure akl ok. Im sold on them now

These are as good a tire as can be expected. 14 ply, good stuff. Not a China Bomb. I don't know what I'll buy when I need tires, but these OEM tires are just fine.

Not sure what you want to know about the 6 pt Level Up. It's the #1 reason I bought the trailer. I won't own one without it.

I have the same tires and level up on my 34RL2 CC Hathaway. Ive had no problems with either and I know E-trailer told me it was one of their better tires they sold. After one year and about 5000 miles you can barely tell they are used. I watch air pressure closely with TST 507 on my RV and dually. Really like the system. Really think you'll like your new rig and the level up. Tires should be well for some time. Safe travels.

Seadog same here we are trying to extend the short camping season here in Canada by getting a seasonal site as well as traveling and thought the 5er would give us the space & comfort we needed Also less worry then a motorized unit when parked for extended times. The cc 29IK & tv (F250 diesel) is only a couple of feet longer then the motor home and toad was so it will make for a good travel unit also. Have a great camping season

Thanks to you all for the input on the tires and the level up system. I think this was the right unit for us at this time, it comes off line 5/15 & we are looking forward to this camping season. As I said we now have a seasonal site in a resort community 2 hours from home and have several road trips planned this summer, 2 weeks to Wash. DC, Williamsburg Va, & Gettysburg Va. and then a week at River Plantation in Pigeon Forge TN, which we go to every year. Just love the Smokey Mtns.

jbrobson- we liked the floor plan and the size of the unit as well as the quality of construction. Had a 35ft cameo 5er and a couple of class c but we are going to try a seasonal site now but still want the ability to travel with it so this size seems good. Good luck in your shopping for your rv & have a great season.

I have a 2018 CC 29ik and love it. No issues with the tires so far, about 2,000 on them. I do have TST monitor.

Our unit only had 1 air unit, my fault. Really needs two, so we added the second over the winter.

Level up is generally good, but sometimes doesn't retract the units before extending the front jacks with "hitch Height" setting.

Unit is very tall, measure it once attached to your TV if you have any low bridges within 1000 miles.

BuzzWolfar thanks for the info. Had noticed the height in the specs & it appears to have gained a few inches from the 2017 model to the 2018 (12'9" to 13'2") so i will take your advise and measure once hooked up. How tall is your unit with the 2nd a/c?

Are you looking at a Silverback or a Hathaway model? My 2016, 34RL Hathaway has always been 13' tall even the broachers list this height. I put in 13'6 into my GPS just to make sure I do not hit any low bridges.

13'6" is mine, BUT I believe your tow unit may make a slight difference. Nose high or low can change the number.

That was why I suggested you measure it.

My original plan was to remove the WestLakes after the first year but now at 12,000+ miles I'm keeping them. We went from a Class A to a 5th Wheel and the drivability is far superior in my RAM. The wife did like the bathroom availability while on the road with the motorhome.

We measured our 2016 CC 34rl with the 2nd a/c on the way home from the dealer at a CAT scale (measure from the bottom of the scale cross bar to the ground (it said 16ft, was 16 ft 4 in) and measure from the cross bar to the top of the front a/c and subtract) and the CC measured at 13 ft 8 in. Over the past 3 years the loading and the springs settling have reduced the height to 13 ft 4 1/2 in. We are currently in Maine on the way to eastern Canada for the summer. We're concerned since the Maine Turnpike (I-95) has many underpasses that are right at 13' 6" and an inch and a half clearance is not quite enough for me. Might have to use Route 1 as an alternative but that goes through a lot of small towns. The point being, know your height and what's in front of you on the road. We use an RV GPS, a trucker's atlas, and a few low clearance websites. Want to see what can happen? Check the website 11 FOOT 8 - The Canopener Bridge from my hometown.
