Hathaway 38 FBD.

I just bought a 2017 GMC 2500 duramax diesel. Towing capacity is 18,100 lbs. is the Hathaway 38fbd under that weight? Seen different places that say that it is 16,390. But other places that say 18,000.

Check pin weight vs payload first.

In my very humble opinion you are in the One (1) ton dually territory with the Hathaway 38FBD trailer. The GVWR is 18,000 LBS and the UVW is 13,824LBS. The UVW is the unloaded weight an empty trailer that is shipped from the factory to the dealer.

I have attached the link to the spec page for the Cedar Creek Hathaway models for you to review. Cedar Creek Hathaway Edition Fifth Wheels by Forest River RV

You might be able to tow a 36CKTS if you tow the trailer with empty storage tanks. This would fit your 3/4 ton SRW Chevy better.

I don't get why it is 18,000. The second bath weighing 2,000 lbs.

The 18,000 is the max weight the unit can legally carry. 16,390 is the empty weight.

No, the UVW (unloaded vehicle weight) is 13,824 LBS as shipped from the manufacture. This includes the LP gas but not a battery or attachments that the dealer installs, per Forest River.

The trailer has a cargo capacity of 4,176 LBS. This is the allowable amount of cargo that the trailer can accommodate which will include your food, clothing, small appliance such as coffee pot, toaster, pots and pans, dishes, and what ever other items you carry. This also allows for the holding tanks to be at maximum capacity of fluids. Your fresh water tank is 69 gallons, gray water is 80 gallons and black water is 80 gallons. This would be about an additional 1,909 LBS of weight. That is subtracted from the 4,176 LBS of cargo capacity.

To know the true total weight of a trailer this must be loaded with all of your gear and fluids as you would travel and than this is weighed with truck on a scale.

We tow a 36CKTS with a Ram diesel 2500 and it zips over the mountains like nothing!

any options has to be considered also, dual pane windows, sat dish, cadet heater etc. Not sure what your options are, but I think the listed weight is a rig coming off the line without a lot of the options. But I could be wrong, I think the listed weight on this model is what my 38fb2 stated on my 2016.
