Heat pump mode?

I have 3 ACs and the rear one is a heat pump. When I use zone 1, AC mode, it uses the rear heat pump and middle AC. Zone 2 uses the front AC. It seems the heat pump mode only works to heat. The manual implies it should work both ways as any single heat pump would. Has anyone with 3 ACs noticed this? Any workaround? Thanks for any replies!

We have 3 airs and 3 different thermostats. The rear air is a heat pump and shows a heat pump icon, a/c, furnace, fan all on the rear stat. The other 2 show fan, a/c, furnace only although they will not activate the furnace.

Mine has one thermostat with a sensor in the bedroom and one in the living room. Everything works off that one thermostat except the HP won;t cool only heat.

Your heat pump won't cool? Really? Perhaps the title "Heat Pump" gives us a clue, or am I missing something here! Try switching the unit to "Cool" or A/C mode if you want cold air.

Looks like you got up too early or are just asleep at the switch. All conventional heat pumps cool and/or heat depending on the thermostat setting and the outside temp. They have a reversing valve that enables a heat pump to work. I'm sure my heat pump would work correctly if it was wired differently at the thermostat. You are definitely missing something somewhere.

I have 3 units on top also, with one thermostat at the door way and a sensor in bedroom. The thermostat has 2 zones, 1 is the rear and middle, 2 is the bedroom. Zone 1 can be set to ac, hp (heat pump), furn., auto, fan, off. Zone 2 is ac, fan, off. When the heat pump is on it only puts out heat. We where told by the dealer that it is for heat only on the nights that it gets chilly out but not cold enough for the furnace, to save on lpg.

That's the way mine works so I guess that was the factory design to keep all three from starting at one time. I want the HP to run separately because I keep the AC at 85 when I'm not using it. I think if I got a single HP thermostat I could separate it and run the HP by its self. My AC guy is coming tomorrow to check my house AC and I'll see what he says. Thanks for the comments!

PS Is your sensor in the bedroom accurate?

I just check it the other day. No it is not. The thermostat said it was 66( DW likes it cold) but the thermometer that I placed next to it said 68. I put the thermometer in one of the air vents when main units where running and it went down to 49.
