Led lights burning covers CC36ckts

Our new 36ckts ceiling lights are melting the covers. They appear to just be laying on the covers with no support. Also many of them are partially burned out. There are five leds per cluster. Any one else noticed this?

Are you sure they are LEDs and not Halogen? Later RJD

Dakota there is several topics on this issue with LED's you might search the forum and will find extensive discussions on this topic. Bottom line is yes this is a very common problem.

This is a known issue. Is is due to some of the driver components for the LEDs overheating. Call your dealer and ask them to order replacements. If you are handy, they are relatively easy to replace and save a trip to the dealer.

I contacted Cedar Creek yesterday Monday 27,2015 about an LED light issue. On our unit the individual switched lights have failed the switch has burned out. The warranty department told me that there is a life time warranty on the LED lights from the manufacture and to contact them direct for replacements. The contact information is orderenty@patrickind.com: This might help you if you want to contact them.

I have chosen to purchase different LED lights that have a heavier duty switch in them. They are not the low profile series but have had good reviews on Amazon.

I 'think' the correct email address is orderentry@patrickind.com.
I believe Jim inadvertently left out an "r" when typing.
Just didn't want someone's email to go to never-never land.

Been there, done that, have the T Shirt. They (circuit boards) do get darned hot. Manufacturer keeps sending me replacements. We don't trust leaving the lights on when not in the fiver.

Hot LED's

I have and have had LED's in two TT's and a 5W, never had one hotter than could hold for a long period of time comfortably. I suggest that you contact an LED supplier with the identification of the LED that gets hot and see what they say. What is the voltage at the lamp? Is it correct? Guess what happens when the wrong voltage is applied to the LED or the switch?
Just saying....

Like I eluded to in the other thread ... 13.1VDC confirmed at the lights themselves. I have several other 12VDC devices in my fiver that have no power issue at all. You can actually apply 12VDC to one laying on a table and the circuit board (not he LED's themselves) gets so hot you can't hold on to it. It's a known issue confirmed by 3 different dealers in the Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma area as well as people in the CC warranty division. All the manufacturer does is send out replacements. The small boards are driven so hard to produce the required light that they get really hot. If the circuit board unsnaps from the light frame and lays on the lenses ... as seen, it will melt it. One of mine had the power wires laying on top of the circuit board itself. Board melted the insulation and wires shorted out blowing a 15amp fuse. All I get is new light assemblies.

I installed these in each light. they are a DC 1.5-35VDC voltage stepdown regulator p/n DSN2596 that I have adjusted to 10.5 vdc. I can leave on all day and the cover is as cool even if a light is setting on the cover. I use Velcro with sticky back to mount the light inside the lamp. on ebay #LM2596 I think you can get 10 for under $12.00 :thumbsup

Wow seems like the RV industry needs to address this safety issue before a deadly fire occurs.

Now for the overhead bedroom lights I adjusted to volts to 5vdc output. We did not need them that bright. One of the great things about the regulator go 1.5 vdc if you want to.

I replaced all of the interior incandescent bulbs in my Georgetown 327DS with LEDs a couple of years ago. I ordered 48LED flat panel assemblies and installed one of those little regulators in the center section of each of the double bulb pancake fixtures. They work like a charm and I haven't had a single failure of an LED panel. Mine are set, I believe, to 11.2V which runs the LEDs at just below maximum brightness and has them cool enough to comfortably hold in your hand.

The scary part of this modification was removing the fixtures. The ceiling fixture that we had on the most had a nice burnt brown color under it.

I found that all the overhead lights in my Vengeance were pretty warm. When I removed the covers found the area immediately around the bulbs to be pretty hot. Four of the bulbs showed areas of scorching at the point where the bulb plugged in to the fixture (two bulbs per fixture). I replaced all 26 bulbs with LED (921 series) and now they are just barely warm at the connection. With the lens covers on I cannot feel any heat when touching the exterior of the fixtures.

Once I get the new tail/turn signal lights installed the entire trailer will have LED lights only.

We have a 2015 36CKTS. Picked it up Feb 1 2015 and within 30 days the lights started going out. Some burnt the covers some just quit . CC sent me enough new ones to replace everyone of mine. I have replaced all but 4 . Those original 4 are still working GREAT.l
