Awesome trucks. We've used them in a commercial setting for many years. I can't speak about the new 6.7, but it seems to be a work horse. We've had 450's with 7.3's, 6.0's and 6.4's. The 6.0 & 6.4 had some issues that most are aware of, but we've been fortunate and only had major mechanical issues with one. Other than that, never had any real issues with any of the trucks.

Looking at up grading and thinking of a Dually ether a GMC or Ford and came across a f450. More truck than needed for pulling our CC but not sure if it's not too much!

Go to ford-trucks.com and go to the diesel tab. Once there click on the 6.7 diesel tab. After that you can look through that forum for topics on the f450. The 450 is one heck of a powerhouse. I have a 350 drw that pulls my 14000# fiver with ease. You may find that the 450 has a lower payload than the 350 due to the heavier springs and brakes, etc. Go to that forum and snoop around. Tons to be learned there. I nearly bought a 450 but then I thought about the extra $ for registration and other things so I got the 350 and absolutely love it!!

I had a 2011 for two years. It was used to pull our Cyclone and it did very well. When the Cyclone and the truck were completely loaded up for race weekends, we were pushing 29,000 lbs.. Hit the interstates and set the cruise. No big deal.

Sold the truck and camper to the same individual.

I wouldn't say its too much truck. Its just a little different than an F350. 4.30 gear is almost overkill but you will merge onto interstates with ease. Tighter turning radius as well.

If you get a really good deal on one, no reason not to buy it. Not sure about what was mentioned about registering. Here in NC, its just another truck. The owner determines the weight rating for his tags. I can register an F450 with 10,000 lb. tags and then register an F150 with 12,000 lb. tags. Its all based on the GCW you think you'll have.

Registration here is based on the sticker on the door. The heavier the truck the heavier the fee. Good point on the tighter steering! The 450's do come with the wider front axles to allow for tighter turning radius. Can't go wrong with either one!

A 350 DRW also can be ordered with the HD tow package which gives you the same wide track front axle and 4:30 gearing as the 450.

That said, a 2011-2014 F350 with the HD Tow pkg is 100% identical to a 11-14 F450. Only in 2015 did the 450 become a different animal again like it was from 08-10.

I have a 2015 F450 and it is awesome. I have towed my 2013 Columbus 385BH across the country and it just walked off with it. Then towed a 48ft gooseneck enclosed car hauler across the country loaded with all my household goods. No issue. The shifting and controllable engine brake is amazing. I towed those from Charleston SC to the Salt lake city UT area and when traversing the mountains it had no issues. Set cruise, turn on the engine brake, and tow haul and never touch the brake going down some pretty steep grades. I love it. Gas mileage could be better but that is life with a big truck.

We have a F-450 that we bought in Florida and took it back to Michigan to pull our CC 38FL with 5 slides. We took it last summer to our daughter's home in Colorado Springs and stayed for two weeks, then we left for my son's home in Aberdeen Maryland, stayed for a week, then back home in Michigan and left for our favorite state Park in Mears, Michigan. Everything about the F-450 was absolutely great! Ride, options, pulling and comfort except the gas mileage. I was used to a Chevy 2500 diesel Duramax short bed, but it had 170K miles on it, Loved it, got good gas mileage when we pulled our Everest. I was not used to a much larger trailer (17K) and the larger truck that when loaded was getting 8, 9 or 10 mpg. So, the MPG was a shock, but the diesel coupled with the F-450 could pull our CC with ease ( in fact I honestly feel that it could pull two of my current trailers). If you get a good deal, snap it up, (mine is a dually) I am not a Ford man (GMC), but it is a workhorse that even looks sharp. (I have gotten a lot of compliment's on it). I needed new tires and front suspension for it, but other than that, it is great!

Look at the F350 in my avatar, swapped it last January for a 2012 F450 drw. We pulled our Brookstone 360rl with the 350 and had no issues at all until I weighed the truck and then the truck with the fiver. I was way over on allowable pin weight. We averaged about 10 mpg with this setup during our travels. The 350 had 3.55 gears and empty mileage was always in the high 19's.

After thinking about the payload/pin weight issue my local Ford dealer took a local 450 on trade. He made me a godfather offer so ended up trading. Long story short, it was a great move. We just pulled our Brookstone from Cincinnati to Sanford, FL and averaged 10 mpg over the 900 plus miles. Best empty milage is 16 so far. Ride is a bit stiff when empty but hitch up the fiver and the ride is great. Mine is the Lariat edition and love the seat heaters in cold weather.

If you get a good deal, go for it.

Curious why you would go F-450 and not F-350.

I don't have a 450 but I have the 6.7 liter diesel- nothing but awesome. The power is more than you'll need for the 36. I have been passed by a F550 with the same engine pulling a horse trailer with 10 horses on board no shortage of power

Just purchased this morning a 2016 Ford F-350 crew cab dually long bed lariat. Been a Chevy man most of my life. I really like the power stroke. They have come a long way from the 1st generation. Had the 5 th wheel prep and my v series fifth wheel hitch dropped right in.

Ordered the same truck 4 weeks ago. 12-13 week production time.
Which real axle did you get? 4.30? Went with that because will be full timing and spending a lot of time in the mountains. Want all the power available. Thunderbolt. 21,000 GVW.
