Go with a 3500 dually and a diesel. Ford, Ram, Chevy, whatever your preference. That way you can haul the biggest rigs that FR build and save yourself heartache having to change trucks in the future when you see the next 'must have' 5er.

This year I switched from a 3/4t Gasser, to a 1T drw diesel, and I'm loving it. Milage is double from my Gasser, but the stability is the best part. I feel very "in control " now. Always did with the 3/4t as well, but it's night and day.
Now, if I lived and regularly drove/parked in a big city, the drw/long bed wouldn't be much fun. Never had any problems on our travels though.

I upgraded from a 1 Ton SRW diesel to a DRW diesel and glad about it. Can't go wrong and you can tow anything on the market in comfort. They are all smooth and quiet rides towing or not.

The answer lies within your vision. For example: we have a 2500 Dodge, turbo diesel that pulls our 37 ft Silverback like a dream. We DO NOT need washer/dryer which we "plumbed" for resale but not the WEIGHT in that front closet. We destination tow. Meaning fresh water at 1/3 and other tanks purged.
Our truck suspension has added leaf springs which makes for a 1 inch loaded dip and excellent all wheel road contact.

Would we consider a front living model or larger unit? Absolutely NOT.
We cannot even fit a dually in our home driveway. Thus, no dually. At age 72, not buying anything bigger.

Just say'n as others have: buy for the FUTURE so your options are not limited. Lot's of nice units out there that you might gravitate towards.

Used duallys are ALWAYS IN DEMAND. You can sell them in a snap as long as the maintenance and care has been performed. Same for 2500 super duties with diesel and right equipment.

So make a decision and enjoy!

I have a 1 ton diesel dually, 4x4, crew cab, long box and it's our daily driver as well as our puller. We went from a 3/4 ton diesel to this one. Feel much safer brake wise and stability. For the Canadian members, in Ontario, if thinking about a new dually, if the GVWR that is on the driver's door reads over 6000 kilos/13227.6 lbs, you will require a CVOR for the truck. So check them out. I think I just read on another site that the GMs are the only brand new ones that meet the exemption. Check out the MTO's website or call them for all the info. It sure is a mess for RVers who want to go to a 1 ton TV. You will find out when you go for the license plate sticker if you already own one or want to up the RGW for towing.

How long is that big thing from nose to tail?

My long box super cab just fits the driveway.

@ Little John

If you want the dually get it, I doubt you will be sorry for one second.

Great looking rig Mud!
Please the replies coming!
I'm pleasantly surprised on the comments from the DRW owners...kinda thought I would see a "wish I never bought it" reply...
We are hoping to pull the plug in 2 years and do some full time Rving for a few years...just trying to get or ducks in a roll (if one ever can...) before doing so...
Thanks again for the replies!

I don't know exactly but over 20 feet long, I have a 40' barn I park it in. Its probably like 22 or 23' long bumper to bumper cause we can park a Ford Fusion behind it and it takes the whole length of the 40 foot barn and its a drive thru barn without barn doors on either end, but they are both out of the sun mostly.

Also consider if your traveling to see sites at your destination how easy will you be able to park this big dulley. When I bought my new truck this was taken into account and so now instead of a big dulley to park I have a nice 3/4 ton crew cab short box and is it nice to get around in. Later RJD

I looked at the new Silverado dulley and it was a little long for me. I want to go to Glacier National Park and drive the Going in the sun highway, and it's a little long for that. I know the dulley pulls good but for me I think I will keep the SRW, if I had it to do over I would have kept the 3/4 ton. The 3/4 ton would have pulled my Cedar Creek 32RL just fine

DRW all the way. Power and stability is awesome. I have no problems as a daily driver, it keeps me out of drive throughs and I park in the back.... Both good things!

You both are talking length when that's not a dually problem. A dually is no shorter or longer than an equivalent SRW truck.

Yes, they're wider- but 9 times out of 10, my problem with my truck is its length (crew cab, long bed = 22' truck) and therefore turning radius. Very rarely do I find myself in a situation where the width of the truck is the problem. And, I've had it in all sorts of close quarters- from Rehoboth Beach, DE to Key West, FL.

Sorry to say length is part of the equation. Dulley is longer. It comes with a 8ft box compared to the 6'6 ft box. This is for Chevy don't know about other brands. If you get the extended cab it's a tad bit shorter. I've owned both . Try going to Charleston SC park a dulley on the street and your sticking out in traffic. Lot of Historic type towns can not handle these large vehicles and you park a long ways away from the action. Later RJD

I generally believe that if I can survive Key West and the various beach towns that I've been to, I can survive any small town in my dually.

I'm about to find out as we have a 60-stop trip planned for the next year+.

In his post he said equivalent. I'm happy to say short bed is an option available on both SRW & DRW Ford models. (See sample photo below)

OP, I look at it this way. What am I doing with the truck the most? Parking at a parking lot or towing around the country? For me it's towing so it's a no brainer for comfort, stability, and cargo room/ capacity, it's a full size crew cab dually!
