when the slide is open the island counter is secure. But when the slide is closed the island is loose from the floor. Any input?

How loose?

It sounds like the floor is flexing when the slide is closed.

Have you checked the tightness of the screws that hold the island in place?

inspection of island has led me to conclude , a poor fastening design by Forest River. The toe kick is the only spot that small 1"x1" blocks are used to hold the island in place. When the slide closes, the "L shape island " is relying on those 1"x1" blocks to support all the weight. Over time the toe kick gets weak, and starts to separate. By adding a support on the outside end of the island thru the access door on the outside of the rig,I was able to add the much needed support.

Ours did the same thing but we were able to have it fixed at the Goshen rally, I think they added some support and extra screws to fasten it down at the base, whatever they did has held really well as it was done 2 years ago. Will be at the camper this weekend and will try to look to see what was done.
