Matching woodwork color?

Our 2013 36ckts has the cherry cabinets and dark woodwork Cedar Creek used for several years. I'm trying to add a small shelf in the living room like the shelves on each side of the bed. I made one out of poplar but have not been able to find a stain to match the existing woodwork. I took one of the shelves out of the bedroom to a Sherwin Williams paint Store and they told me it was not a stain but wood dye commonly used in cabinet shops. So I took it to a specialty wood store that sells wood dyes and they told me it was a stain not a dye, yet no one has been able to match it.
Has anyone come up with a wood/stain combination to match this woodwork? Thanks Steve

Our 2015 cedar creek has dark woodwork before the went to the lighter wood. I needed to touch up some edges and found the urethane brand stain called carington I bought at home depot matched perfectly. My shelf's I built were oak so you may not get the same result with poplar. Poplar won't hold stain as well. Hope this helps.

Thank you I'll try carington stain on the poplar. I don't mind switching to oak if that'll work better to.

Stain

If you can wait until tomorrow, my unit is in storage right now and I will go get the info for you. I have a quart and a touchup pen of the exact color that was used during the summer of 2013 when mine was built. I just can't recall the name right now.The manufacturer is not one of the common brands you will find in hardware stores. I have used it on some trim changes I made and it matched perfect.

Thank you that would be a huge help. If I could find out the brand and color of the stain I could find it somewhere. Steve

Matching Stain

Does the color of your woodwork look like this? 2013 Cedar Creek.

I would try another paint store.
You need to find one that has a person that knows how to stain match.
My local store matched my color off a drawer that I brought them.

Thanks. I did try taking one of the bed room shelves to a Sherwin Williams store. They told me it looked like a wood dye instead of stain but couldn't match it. Then I went to a specialty wood supply store that sells both wood dyes and stains with no better luck. We're not close to the city so it's not handy for us to try a lot of different places. It sounds like you got lucky enough to find the right guy who knows how to match stain. Thanks. What is the brand and color of the stain your guy sold you?

I'll run over to S/W and see if I can get the blend for you.
