My Dog locked me out of my Silverback

One morning we were preparing to pack up the trailer and left our dog inside while we did some prep outside. We left the trailer keys on the kitchen counter. Just as I was going to open the trailer door she jump on the door hitting the internal lock and locked us out. As I was beginning to stress how to get in the trailer I remember I hid a spare key when we first bought the trailer. Never thought I would use it. I just thought I would share this weird incident, makes me think of other backup plans.

We have a backup set in my truck when we go camping just in case the kids do something like this.

We also keep a backup set outside the RV, just in case something happens.

Our small puddle has done same thing, we sometimes leave F350 running with air on for the dog and come back to find all the windows down. I made some small inserts to put under the buttons to keep her from pushing them down.

My camping buddy had his dog in truck, engine running, A/C on. While hitching up, the dog locked his truck doors. We were an hour pasted check out on a 90 degree day trying to get in.

Our Lily has locked us out of the truck before! Luckily the air was on and we just had to wait for AAA. If the air wasn't on- we'd have had to break a window.

We have to drive around with the child locks on because she likes to randomly roll down the windows when you're going down the interstate.

My wife has labeled me 'anal' when it comes to "keys".
I have spare keys for the 'spare keys'.

Wouldn't you know that I have not had the chance to call upon them
for the causes as listed above....and we do have a dog.

But.... I'm ready

We have two sets of keys and the rules are that no one has both sets of keys. I personally do not set my keys down, they are always in my pocket or clipped to my belt loop. If I get out of the truck to check something the window is rolled down and left open. Of course this has no bearing on what a dog will do to the controls.

I used to use magnetic spare key holders. Several years ago I switched to a nylon pouch with a velcro sticky strip. Clean the surface well with alcohol and you can be very creative where you hide your spare.

I keep a spare set of everything in my truck. Should the truck and house or camper be locked I use the number pad on the F250 doors to open the truck and get the spare keys.

First thing we did was make 2 extra sets of keys. One set stays in the van, the other set is hidden in the pass through. Extra pass through key is in magnetic holder under trailer. My sister and I have both had dogs play games with the locks and windows in the past so now we want to be sure we're prepared! cincia

I have been to several places that make keys and none can make an ignition/door key for my Chevy 4500 Express Van chassis. I am trying to avoid going to a Chevy dealer figuring the cost will be astronomical.

Glad to read you have a spare key. We do too and I have more than one set of them. I keep a set in my truck, and in a lockbox that I can chain to the camper frame and the lock box is a combination lock. We got locked out once on the Alaska Highway back in 2002 and we had to sit outside in the cold for most of a day while we waited for road service to come from about 250 miles away. Ever since that we always have extra car/truck and camper keys in hiding spots.

My Ford has the "key pad" on the outside of the door that unlocks it with the right code. And yes, I've had to use it. Terrier trouble! Assumes you can remember the code!!

Spare keys are a must. We have been locked out of our TV by our dog and out of the RV by our Grand Kids twice.

That's Comical!

I often thought the same ( accidentally locking me out, that is ) when leaving my dog in the truck when it's running. Thankfully, I learned it cannot be locked when running. Ha Ha....the jokes on her, unless she learns how to shut the truck off. Then, of course, she just may be plotting against me when I take her to the store and she notices I come out empty-handed without her dog treats.

Gotta love our furby pets!

Our lab likes to roll the windows down and lock the doors of the truck too. We found some nice side curtains that fit into the window ledge and covers the door and buttons. She can't see to step up on the arm rests now and the door stays cleaner too.
