New Cedar Creek

I couldn’t believe that Cedar Creek would eliminate the rear cap on the Hathaway, from the rear you can’t tell the difference between a Silverback and Hathaway. The plant manager told me you could not option the rear cap in. Me and DW love our Cedar Creek but when it comes time to trade I’ll look for SOB. I would not be surprised that in a few years that Cedar Creek stops making the Hathaway. I can’t tow the Cedar Creek Champagne with my SRW and DW said no dually. Took the tour and Cedar Creek has some pretty campers, Cedar Creek has been great for us, I’ll sure hate to leave themClick image for larger version

I am completely unimpressed with the wood that is used in the cabinets. Personally I think it looks cheap. I'm unimpressed with the two models on display at the fairgrounds.

I came over from the Montana camp … all three of my units over the years had the molded rear cap. My Silverback didn't and I thought it would be a constant reminder every time I walked around the back of it. I actually began liking the look and it continued to grow on me to the point the molded rear cap is a distant memory. I wouldn't jump ship solely over the rear cap … lack of overall construction quality … yes.

I have always liked the rear cap, it’s what each of us likes. I will not have the new steps that come on campers now. But you buy what you like. I saw a Cardinal at the rally that I like. Cardinal is also deleting the rear caps but they will let you option in the rear cap, Cedar Creek will not

The cheapest 5th wheels on the market don't have rear caps...CW is full of them. I wouldn't buy a Tiffin Vilano 5th wheel because it didn't have a rear cap and I really like Tiffin. Good motorhomes and good service. I think my CC Champagne looks classy and the rear cap is part of it. I wouldn't buy an RV just because it had a rear cap, but I wouldn't buy one without it. Everyone to their own tastes and desires.

Sure you can with a 3500...oops, I forgot you had a Chevy. I was thinking it was a Ford.

I was looking at the Cedar Creek Hathaway website a few days ago and saw the New 34IK floorplan there. I thought they made a mistake as it looked like a Silverback interior. Not that there is anything wrong with it but we prefer the lighter wood and darker countertops of the 2018 Hathaway. I think the back cap is "classy" but I wouldn't really care one way or the other on that. Glad we bought a 2018!

I'm with you on the new steps that store in the door frame … don't care for them. Both of us are pretty trim and we have no issue with the infamous "spring board" effect. Currently you can option these off … wonder how long till you can't?

I was not impressed with the Cedar Creeks on display at Goshen. Didn't like the colors inside - didn't notice the rear caps. I don't think I would pay Cedar Creek prices without a rear cap. It seems like they are moving down a little with the Cedar Creeks and positioning the Riverstone as their luxury 5th wheel. I have a 2018 Cedar Creek Champagne and there is no comparison to the 2019's. If I was buying a luxury 5th wheel today I would probably look seriously at the Cardinal or Riverstone.

The explanation I got was that CC's suppliers are raising their prices due to the rise in tariffs. CC wants to keep the Hathaway and Silverback at a certain price point therefore they need to remove some things. I tend to think the tariff thing is an excuse but I am just the messenger.

That’s not what the plant manager told me. He told me that the guy that takes the orders wanted to keep the rear caps on and the plant manager said none would be built with the rear caps. I was told that I could get a Champagne model. I told him I couldn’t pull it and I wasn’t getting a dually. I talked to the Cardinal guy and he said Cardinal was taking off the caps on some models but you could still option the rear caps in. The Cardinals are 100 inches wide. There is a RV show in Raleigh NC next weekend that I plan on attending, the Cardinals will be on display plus people from the factory. You could also option in the old steps.

WOW - I have a 2019 CC 34RL2 (Hathaway) and it HAS a rear cap. WE took delivery in early June....so are you all talking about no more rear caps for the 2020 models?

This might be old news but I've just seen on the Cedar Creek FB page they are building a front kitchen model for 2019 as well. That looks pretty smart on the inside but I'd prefer the rear cap.

If the God's love me enough to allow my numbers to be picked, I'd most likely mov over to the Riverstone 39FK now.

Hey Spock... True story... My DW was talking to the plant manager outside the factory while I was talking to my tour guide inside... The answer I shared was what I was told... My DW was told that the changes are made because management felt it was time for a change...I guess we will never get the real story... We can file it under "it is what it is" and be thankful we have many choices... And also thankful that I bought a 2014 with the cathedral ceilings. I think it is sad to see those go.

The front kitchen in the Cedar Creek will be the Champagne model and very close to the River Stone, Cedar Creek went with only one entry door towards the rear near the bathroom area. The plant foreman transferred from River Stone to Cedar Creek so it looks to me they might share some floorplans.

The Riverstones are nice but a lot to heavy for me to pull. DW says no to a dually and I don’t really want one. I met someone at Shipshewana South that was pulling with a dually and they were going to trade down to a SRW. One more trip to Alaska on this Creek and I’ll be looking to trade. I looked at a Cardinal at the rally and it looked great, 1 inch shorter than my 32RL Cedar Creek. What I really liked was being told that Cardinal would option in things wanted. I was told I could option in the steps I like plus the rear cap

Do you mean a flat ceiling inside? The exterior roof looks curved.
