Great...I just bought my Ram 2 months ago. Checked my VIN on the Dodge website and apparently my vehicle has had the repair completed. I think I'll swing on over and confirm that it has been done just in case.

Sounds like they are wanting you to get the new truck instead of fixing. Why? money in there pockets with the replacement trucks. May sound like a good offer but still will cost you money in the long run and that is what they are betting on. Remember nothing is ever free. Later RJD

I have an 2008, 4X4 Mega Cab; that I just rebuilt the steering linkage on with all MOOG components. I did this because of the oversize tires and the heavier weight of the tires and rims that I am using and I had 80K miles on the original steering components.

I am not that worry about the front steering linkage issue at all. Since these designs have been around since solid axles were used on 4X4 trucks. My early 60's and 70's vehicle had the same style steering linkage as my 2008 Mega Cab. I have dealt with the dread "Death Wobble" on Chevy Blazer's, Ford Broncos and Jeeps that were all built with solid axles. You just replace the steering components that have worn out due to usage such as tie rod ends, ball joints and the steering stabilizers. This is common practice for on and off roaders who used that era of vehicles! Been there done that and still doing it!

This new recall isn't showing up on the lists yet. There were prior recalls that have been done, but with this specific one, the word is Chrysler is (on a Facebook group, someone reported the results of calling them about an hour ago) still trying to determine which models are affected.

It will be interesting to sell how this affects the resale value of Ram trucks, Two reasons for this. A major recall like this where they are actually buying the vehicles back will surely dampen a lot of desire on peoples part to want to buy one of these. Second, to repair upwards of 500,000 trucks and then dump them back on the used vehicle market will surely flood the market with a vehicle that now has a perception of serious guality issues.

It is unlikely Chrysler will give us owners a "too good to refuse" buy back deal so for those of us who don't want, need or can afford a new truck it will be interesting to see what happens.

I have a 2012 3500 Limited Cummins 6.7 with only 21,800 miles on it and never had any issues with it. Only have had 2 recalls, one for a tie rod bolt which they replaced the whole tie rod shaft and the second recall was for the Diesel fuel heater electrical connector. Other that that this simply has been the best truck I have ever owned. It pulls my 5er like it's not even there. If I ever buy another one it will be a Ram. The only real complaint I have is those Firestone tires, I have the Transforce HT they just plain SUCK. Going with Cooper Tires when it's time to replace.

Lotsa misinformation.

The problem being addressed is a bad ball joint put on trucks between 2008 and 2012. There was a recall on this spring of 2013. As of now only 60% of the trucks were fixed, and that's what triggered the government mandated buyback. The buyback only applies to trucks that haven't complied with the recall, which is a number closer to 180,000.

Basically, if you haven't had your truck repaired under the recall, you'll have the option to either get the truck fixed, or have them buy it back for the original purchase price (not sticker) minus depreciation. That number will probably be around blue book. Bought back trucks will simply have the ball joint replaced and will be placed back on the dealer's lot.

X2. But 35k miles with general tires. Great truck. Would buy again.

X3, here. I had the exact same 2 recalls and just hit 41k miles (of which, ~20k were towing miles).
