new Silverback 33rl and Ram 2500 6.4 hemi
Well, if finally made the decision to go with the new 2014 Silverback 33RL. It was a tough choice between the 33 or the 29
During my search I discovered that the Silverback is about the only mid-level 5er that someone 6'6" can walk upright in the bedroom without touching the cieling. I still have to duck going through the doorway. Wow, there are some really low bedrooms out there.
Now the next stress point is how well my Ram 2500 6.4 hemi will do pulling 11,000 dry weight. My ad rating tow is 12,100. Its just he wife and I so add another 500-600 lbs and I'm at 11,600.
I dont retire for 3 more years but once I do we are planning to travel the US. After 35 years of doing IT work, I'm ready now.

Welcome to the forum jmac2009. That Silverback you purchased has a great floorplan, I know you'll love it.

Congrats on your new camper and welcome to the forum!
I looked up the tow ratings in the 2014 Trailer Life Towing Guide... http://prodcontent.s3.amazonaws.com/...wGuide2014.pdf
I didn't see ratings quite that low. I guess you didn't order the truck with the higher rear end gear (4.10) as the towing ratings would be over 15000 lb.
The other word of caution is that brochure dry weights aren't very accurate...frequently several hundred pounds less than the yellow sticker weight, which doesn't include battery(s) or propane or dealer added items like 2nd A/C and slide toppers. The dry weight may be closer to 11500 than 11000.

Thanks for the warning of 11,500. I went with the 3.73 gear. Didnt think I would be towing more than 9-10,000 until the wife saw the 33RL.

Congrats on the Silverback. We have the 2013 model and love it. If you hit the mountains your Hemi may not like it. Keep it in tow mode and you may be ok. I have a diesel and it pulls great.

Do you use the tow mode the whole time you are towing your camper or just on the hills and mountans?

All the time for me. The whole purpose of the tow/haul mode is to use it while towing.

I looked up in the specs and the Silverback 33RL has a shipping weight of 10415 lbs...with propane, battery, dealer adds, etc, you should still be under 11000 lbs. Sorry for any confusion I may have added.

I was told that CC weights every trailer as the come off the line, just as they ship it to the dealer. My trailer was at 10610 lb and its a 2014, but it's the early 2014 so it looks like a 2013.
The posted weight on the web site has to be the standard trailer, but after you ad the options the weight goes up LOL.
You are going to love the 33RL, I think for the money there is not a better trailer than the Silverback.

Thanks jimmac28, makes since. There was an early 2014 on the floor we consider, it had the half shower and did not have the LIC leveling jacks and was at 10,600 lbs.

Congrats! I have a 2013 29RE Silverback pulled by an 07 Silverado 6.6 with the 6-speed trans. It has no problem whatsoever and I can't believe you would have any difficulty. Enjoy!

I hope you have fun with your new camper, we have nothing but good things to say about our C/C, we looked at a 33RL Silverback but it was a little long for us but we liked the floorplan. I like the island and was thinking about ordering a island for the 30RL but it would not work out but we got some good ideas from looking at the 33RL. As for the truck thats up to you, pull the camper some and find out if you feel good with your truck pulling the camper. Its up to you, I have seen half ton pickups pulling really big fifthwheels, it all comes down to how you feel. I had a 08 Silverado diesel and it would not pull a bumper pull camper good, it was 34ft, I had air bags on truck and truck was level and all but truck would not stay in cruise, I had to keep my right foot on the pedal all the time, with that being said just find out what you are comfortable with and go with that

Make sure your truck has an external tranny cooler. You may want to consider airbags also the 33rl is fairly heavy. I don't have them yet but they are on my list.
