New to fifth wheels
Hey all,
We just traded in our 2013 Flagstaff 832IKBS on a new 2014 Cedar Creek 38CK. This will be our first fifth wheel experience. I'm going to be looking for help I'm sure. We are going to put it on a permanent site for a couple of years then start exploring. So we've got a little time to research the perfect tow vehicle. I'll also be looking for info on hitches. Thanks in advance for any help. This is going to be fun! (I hope)

That's what we were thinking. An F350 diesel dually. Have had really good luck with our Excursion so I feel better staying with Ford. She's being delivered in January. Already getting anxious.

13,260 lbs empty is what you Fifth weighs then you add options, heavy IMO.
A dually will give you a stable platform that both of you will find easy to drive, granted a bit big for a daily driver but lots of people do it.

Yup, just had mine at the mall for the Xmas shopping insanity today and yesterday since my wife was out in the car! Suburban area- it's always fun but not a whole lot different if we didn't have the extra wheels. The crew cab + long bed makes for a long truck and that's more an issue than width.

Good choice. Too bad the timing is a bit off. I just sold my 2012 Saturday. We really liked it and we got 12.2 avg mpg on our 10,000mi trip this year towing our 36 CKTS. We went over the toll scales in New England (I think it was Conn.) and weighed in at 19,500 GCVW. I understand the new Dodge 3500 Cummins with the Aisin Trans is a contender as well.
One of the most important TV items for towing a heavy 5er is the rear axle ratio.
3.73 will yield the best all around performance/economy at 15,000 lbs or less. If you are going to tow at a heavier weight and/or you are going to frequent mountainous regions, you might want to consider a 4.10/4.11: 1 ratio.

We have the Pullrite Superglide along with the Trailair pin box. Yes, it cost more than other hitches. But, it saves the trailer, the stuff in it and makes the ride so much smoother. We get 11.2 mpg avg.

Ford vs Chevy
As a driver for a large dealership that deals in both vehicles, I can honestly say, the Ford Truck is more comfortable than the Chevy. May have been because the Ford had clothe interior and the Chevy had leather, they were both in the F250 and 2500HD line: Go figure, I would still buy the 2500HD because that what we have now and pull a Crusader 270RET 8890# dry:

I'm trading in my '11 2500 HD 4x4 next year for a '15 3500 LB,DW , 4x4. I messing around online the the other day putting together a '14 model to get a ball park price. It will be the Allison/Duramax combo again and when I chose the lower geared rear end it kicked me back to a gasser. I need check with dealer and see why.
On a side note though , I currently have the LTZ model. When was pricing the 3500 LB, DW LTZ and just took off the navigation it came out to the same sticker price my 2500. I don't use the navigation on my current pickup. Just something to think about if your looking for a 3/4 ton, why not go big and just be done with it. Wish I had back in '11.

Good advice. We'll be sure to give the big three an equal opportunity. Definitely going one ton dually.

Look at the GVWR for a DRW vs SRW, eg 3/4 ton. Then look at the GVWR for the 3/4 vs the 1 ton, SRW vs SW. I'm not picking sides.

The 4:10 gearing is no longer available in the 3500, only gear choice with D/A is the 3:73, but that still gives you a max tow of 23k and a GCW topping 30k. I maxed out my '13 GMC at just under 70k sticker, and picked it up for 53k in Aug when the '14's were coming out. Those "leftover" deals are hard to beat.

That's a great deal AquaMan. I scored my 11 when the came out. I couldn't wait , lol. Sticker was 61k and I got it down to 52k with 0% financing.
I'm holding out for '15 3500 4x4, LB, CC , DW. The new interior and the added room to the crew cab should be worth the wait. This will be my last pickup for many years.
