Now I'm mad

I just opened my slide and BANG...CRUNCH.....Here the end overhead cabinet had jarred open and the door broke off and punched a hole in the wall....... Well the door is ok..didn't even break the glass front, but did punch a nice hole in the wall. I can get the door back on, not sure how I'm gonna fix the wall yet. I put Velcro straps on all cabinets that face each other but have not figured out how to hold the end ones shut... sure wish I had figured it out......

Had a door open while traveling, located "Behind the Slide wall" Hidden you might say! Door caught on Slide trim and "Ripped off the Door" After repairing all the "Carnage" I went to HD/Lowes and bought replacement Hinges that were "Self Closing" that were Exact look alikes! Youroo!! I posted Pics years ago on here, maybe do a Search?

Youroo is right. One of the first things we do to a new rig is replace hinges with self closers and latches with 10-15lb pull ratings.

Looks like you have one more thing to add to your list of things to check before moving your slides

Had a Drawer in mine that moved out and caught the slide totally destroyed the drawer and damaged the cabinet. I repaired the style of the cabinet with a piece they used to cover the electric box in cabinet. Rebuilt the drawer and glides and now before I open the slides I crawl back there and check it.

good to know, that I'm not the only one.
done the same thing- but luckily only the door ripped off- bent the hinges back, went to Lowe's and bought walnut - stain and fixed it as good as I could- good that's in a "shady" corner. I didn't tell my wife and I will not. And I will act surprised, when she ever sees it (which I hope not). Because I would have to listen to it for the next 10 years, that I messed her brand new camper up...
But very good advise with the self closing hinges. She never uses the door anyway, because we only have the remotes in there. When she's gone with her sisters for her annual sister-vacation, I will use the opportunity to swap the hinges out for self closing ones. And I won't tell her either...

LOL....good one Chris...yeah now that I am thinking of it I will be replacing all the hinges...may still use the Velcro though on the ones where the handles are together...I already thought of how to pull the crunched part of the wall out and there is a section of paneling like it in the cabinet beside the oven I can try to piece in...no one is gonna know what color the piece of wood was under there....

First V-lite I had a door open on the slide side. I stopped before to much damage was done. Just bent the hinge some thank goodness did not mess up slide trim. Now be for I even open slide check make sure all is closed and also chairs not moved as the new camper has them right up against back wall of trailer and will bounce around on rough roads even tho they are strapped in place. Later RJD

I had brought a cheap toaster from Walmart for seven bucks, a cabinet door came open and the toaster fell out, DW was running the slide out. The slide crushed the toaster, I told DW not to worry if that toaster had been expensive it could have done some real damage to the slide. Now DW checks everything out when she is running the slides out and we have another cheap toaster from Walmart

Yeah you aren't the only one. The mirrored doors in the back of the bunkroom in our QBOK open in transit and then they catch the slide if you aren't paying attention. Ask me how I know.......

Yep, been their and done that. I caught the sink cabinet knob on my slide. No damage to the slide but did bend the handle a little.

I am sure we all have done something in a hurry and quickly regretted it. I have done my share. We learned many years ago you move Nothing without going and checking to see if the coast is clear. Slides are a powerful thing.

Depending on the location and size of the hole in the wall, you could cover it with a thin picture frame or use a blank electrical wall plate.

X3 Lots of things can move around while going down the road. We have forgotten to put away pillows, doggy toys, etc that can find their way between the walls and slide trim. It seems like nearly every floor plan has at least one cabinet door or drawer that can catch on the slide if it comes open. We check both sides of all the slides before we open them after a day on the road.
Sure sorry for your mishap but it is an easy mistake to make.

Apparently a common theme. Had a cabinet door open in transit on my old Hideout. Opened behind the lip of slide, so when i opened was jammed up pushing back on the cabinet door. Bent/broke the hinges. Heard wood cracking and stopped. Actually bend the skirting on the slide a little. (lower cabinet) Luckily door didn't break. Replaced the hinges and bend slid skirting back into place. (almost as good as new)

No fun. After my second mishap, I installed magnetized baby locks from HD for all cabinet doors. When we pull in, I unlock all the cabinets using the magnet key, and lock them all when we get ready to pull out.

Opening the street side slide last year and I heard a crunch sound. Sides all looked good and no apparent floor damage. Retracted it and sitting on top were the remains of the smoke detector including the mounting plate. No damage to the slide seal. Replaced with a new detector with more substantial screws and now I look up as well as to the sides.

I caught a cabinet door that came open after a transporter brought us the trailer back from the factory. It pulled the slide trim out a bit. Easily fixed but annoying just the same.

To keep the cabinet door closed you could try child proof Magnetic cabinet locks

On my old(new to me) 5er the door to the bunk house would come open if not shut correctly...when running out the BH slide the door knob caught the slide frame and the slide won.
