Ordering Parts

I stopped in at a Forest River dealer yesterday to order a piece of wallpaper seam tape. I was asked if I had purchased my unit from them. I replied no. I was promptly informed that Forest River would not allow them to sell me parts for my unit if I didn't buy it from them. To her credit, she gave me a piece free of charge from her inventory. Unfortunately it did not match well enough. I just called Cedar Creek and they sold me exactly what I needed. Does any of this make any sense to anybody?

No and yes, it's not FR that does not want to sell to you, it is the dealership since you did not buy from them.....typical in RV industry....

Pretty crappy on the dealers part for saying that. Forest River doesn't make that call. Dealer can sell whatever parts they want to whoever. Glad CC came through for you.

I could understand not wanting to do warranty work on a unit they didn't sell but not on a cash sale item.

I've dealt with Sheila McGee at FR as well for parts. She seems to actually know what you have instead of just a warm body looking at a exploded view of a component on a computer screen. I've heard of dealers refusing to work on units not sold by them, but have not heard of one refusing to order parts ... I'd not darken the dealership's threshold ever again.

I would have told that when I get ready to order a new unit it would not be from them or anything else I brought for this camper. I would love to know the dealers name so I don't make the mistake and give them any business

Some dealers love to "punish" customers who didnt buy from them. We love the floor plan on our 29RE but closest dealer is 90 miles away. We went there first, but they would not even try to match prices. The manager even told me flat out that were i to purchase elsewhere, that i should not bring the unit to them for service....in warranty or out. They simply did not want my business. That impression will stay with a customer for a loooong time.

They didn't punish me, they simply lost a simple cash sale on a small item. What they did do however was to loose the sale of a future unit. That position made absolutely no sense at all.

Strange. CC's website specifically notes owners should obtain their required parts through their local dealer? Unreal a dealer wouldn't support your needs for them to ultimately make money.

Cedar Creek had been really good to me about ordering parts. Cedar Creek had worked with me about parts, I couldn't ask for better service from Cedar Creek. Cedar Creek has been better than the dealer that I brought the camper from. I brought from Tom Johnson and they have been ok

What the dealer was trying to say was 'you didn't buy your RV from us so you can't know how bad we can be and unprofessional we are, so we are going to do you a favor and save you the money and hassle of ever buying from us by refusing to help you with a simple thing, it's what we call our Customers are always Last promise'.

Good response Brentf. We bought ours on the "net", took delivery from Adamstown PA, a long way to take it back to the selling dealer from Spring, TX, huh? The local dealer is not, as far I'm concerned, a good example of a selling dealer. The two occasions I did take it to them, they screwed it up more, then charged FR/CC about 10x what we finally had the factory do for the repair. In my book FR/CC provided the customer real service in all situations. George and his crew at CC provide the highest level of "customer service" anyone could expect!

I are really surprised because that dealer is listed as a CC authorized dealer. I was looking at buying a 2015 from them, really glad I didn't and I know not to bother going to them for any warranty.
