Placement of spare tire on 2015 Silverback 29IK

Our spare tire is located in the front compartment. If I have a flat, getting this spare out while the tow vehicle is attached would be very difficult. Has anyone moved this spare to the rear bumper? If so, did you use a standard mount? I have tried to find a spare mount for the 1 1/4 hitch but nothing is available. I know some have installed an under body mount for the spare but I really don't like that either.

Does anyone keep a second spare and if so, where is it stored.

The rear bumper is not very strong. Hanging the spare off of it would probably break the welds and make it fall off. I would first put on some decent tires not the ST junk it came with and leave the spare alone as you probably won't need it.

Whatever you do...
1 If tire is not under the RV but is exposed to sunlight be sure to cover with WHITE cover.
2. Be sure the spare is properly inflated. A flat spare is of no value.

I have run my 2014 Silverback with the spare on the rear bumper for two years and about 10k miles, with no issues. No incipient cracks on periodic inspection.

Some will strongly urge you not to do so, however, due to reports of bumpers detaching because of poor welds. Your call...

I have a 2016 Silverback 29 RE and I use the BAL hide-a-spare mounted just behind the axle. I had the dealer install it when we purchased our Silverback but it looks fairly ease to install. We have had our Silverback for over a year and have not had any issues with the hide-a-spare. I don't have a second spare but wanted to use the front compartment for storage.

The Sun damage is not just on exterior (UV) but in the tire structure(heat). This can lead to tread separation. White covers can reduce the affects from Sun exposure due to
heat and eliminate damage from UV.

I should clarify that the incipient cracks I look for are in the welds, which evidently has been a problem -- or anticipated problem -- for some folks.

If you have not I suggest you try getting the tire out hooked up. I have had two set of china bomb tires that I had to change on the road and getting the tire out was not an issue. Just drug it out and dropped it to the ground. I even had a 4 bank battery box blocking one side of the basement.

Did the dealer have to drill holes for the BAL hide-a-spare?
