Residential refrigerator

How can I turn off the refrigerator if I can’t unplug it. Is the only way is to disconnect the negative on the batteries

Hey Spock! You should be able to either turn off the fridge/freezer from the controls inside the fridge, turn off the inverter, or both. At least that is the way it worked for my Dad's residential fridge.

Our dial where you set the temperature has an off position that turns off the compressor. I used to unscrew the light bulb until I bought a fitting to screw into the socket with a pull chain switch. The only other way I know of would be with the breaker.

On my unit you must turn the temperature adjustment up with the + temp for the refrigerator until both the refrigerator and freezer say off. Your may be different just read your owners manual.

I was thinking that if the power was off the light would be out when you opened the door. I think the light will go out tomorrow when I break connection with the batteries. $5,000.00 bucks fixing the camper.

If it a resi fridge your batteries have nothing to do with it. Just turn off the inverter. it's not on a breaker.

My Cedar Creek 5th wheel has a breaker that is labeled inverter. Turn off the breaker, all power to the residential fridge is off.

Ditto. Or, if the inverter is off and now power is hooked up the refrigerator should be off.

All power to the fridge comes from the inverter. It either passes thru from shore power or it is generated by the inverter when no 120vac is present.

The breaker controls the 120 vac that goes to the inverter. The output of the breaker does not go directly to the fridge. It goes into the inverter. If the inverter is off the 120vac just passes thru it to the fridge. If the inverter is on the 120vac still passes thru as the inverter is in ‘standby mode’. If the 120vac goes away, ie, no shore power or the breaker is tripped the inverter now switches to its 120vac generated voltage and supplies it to the fridge. The inverter gets its energy from the batteries. If the inverter is ‘off’ and no shore power or breaker tripped then there is no power to the fridge.
