I love the mountains and Mountaindale Campground is one of my favorite RV parks. How can you not like a park that has mule deer wandering around in the evening?

Today we ate lunch at The Airplane Restaurant in Colorado Springs. Even with the air conditioning it was rather warm sitting in the fuselage of the plane. Booth style seating, four person booths on one side and two person booths on the other. The food was surprisingly good.

Since you are where I am planning to go later (Aug) just wondering how the fires are affecting either your travel or the CO economy?

The fires really aren't affecting us other than the fact that we can't have a campfire. The local news is dominated by the fire stories. Sale of fireworks have been banned for the 4th of July.

I have to say that our Silverback has put the "fun" back into RVing. We had so many issues with our previous Wildcat fifth wheel it just wasn't fun anymore. On almost every trip something would break or go wrong and RVing had become a chore.

In 2007 we visited the Royal Gorge and we walked across the top and then took the Incline Railway to the bottom of the gorge. Today we went through the Royal Gorge via the Royal Gorge Railway. Beautiful scenery for sure.

Oakman - Just take that old KC-97 up to about 25-30K feet and it will get real cool real fast!

The rally in Goshen looks like it will be a lot of fun Bob. I'm looking forward to seeing you again and it will be interesting to see all the new faces too.

B47, with a screen name like your's, I'm sure you know all about the KC-97's.

Today we hiked and explored Cheyenne Mountain State Park. I wanted to see what the full hookup campsites in the park looked like. Thereís not a lick of shade anywhere in the campground but what I found surprising was the concrete wheel stops that were placed to make sure you keep the trailer on the pad. The concrete would be just outside your trailer door. All of the campsites had these concrete barriers. I could see myself tripping over these at night. Iíll pass on this campground.

While exploring the state park we came across a prairie dog colony. In an attempt to get a photo, I discovered that it is next to impossible to sneak up on prairie dogs. When one prairie dog sounds the alarm they all take off for their burrows. I had to use the maximum optical zoom on my camera and then edit and enlarge the photo to get this picture.

I have to agree about the deer in Mountaindale. We stayed there for the month of May and one morning I got up, plopped into my favorite chair, reached over and raised the blinds to see this...

She was just as unconcerned as can be! We did enjoy the campground and the area, but after 20+ years at sea level, the 6600 ft elevation of the campground did tend to leave me short of breath
