Two days before we left the Mountaindale RV park for Elk Meadow in Estes Park the Estes Park fire broke out. It was contained quickly but a number of structures were burned to the ground. We called Elk Meadow to make sure the roads and the park were still open, they were. The fire was right across the street from the Elk Meadow campground but fortunately it didn‘t have to be evacuated. Other than that the fires haven’t really affected us.

It’s extremely hot in Colorado but it isn’t nearly that hot here at Elk Meadow RV park. The high temperature today was in the upper 80’s. I love have the two A/C’s on the Silverback.

We took three short hikes in Rocky Mountain National Park today. The one mile Tundra Nature Trail at 12,200 feet and ascending another 260 feet was breathtaking…in more ways than one.

I thought our bath tank seemed to be holding quite a bit of water for not being full. Today I discovered that a full tank still only registers 2/3 full on the monitor. Hmmmm, the things you find out about new trailers!

Yesterday we hiked Lily Lake. It was a short, easy hike and the scenery as always was beautiful.

On the way back to our campground we noticed some Elk playing in a field in Estes Park.

Looks like a couple of realtors fighting over a commission.

Yesterday we drove the old Fall River road up to the Alpine Visitors Center. The road is a one lane dirt road with quite a few hairpin turns and a few washboard sections. Just as in 2002, my wife was nervous as we drove the sections of the road where the steep drop-off was on her side. I highly recommend this drive to anyone that will be visiting Rocky Mountain National Park.

Here are a few pics from that drive.

Here's a shot of some Elk in a valley that was just below the tree line.

Here's a shot of some Elk in the snow high above the tree line.

If you're logged in to the forum you should be able to see all the photos. I use the same photo hosting website for displaying photos on the Internet so if you can see one, you should be able to see all.

Jeez, maybe I'm wasting my time putting photos in my posts if no one can see them. Perhaps I'll have to try something different.
