To add to the mystery, I also have a Frigidaire 16 cf that draws 700 watts. But for some weird reason I only draw about 6 amps when I'm on the inverter. Ya I know it should draw 60 amps, but it doesn't & I'm not going to change anything or complain. But when I use our electric coffee pot that says 900 watts, my inverter meter says 75 amps like its supposed to. I do have a 2K pure sine wave inverter & 4- L16-6vdc 390 ah AGM batteries & 480 watt solar system. I've asked & showed a lot of people about the reefer draw, but no body seem to have an answer!

Solar

I have done the math for my home. To be safe you will need minimum 2000 watts from panels and at least 4 6vdc deep cycle batteries.

Why - you will be mounted flat figure about 60% efficiency - there will be days with no sun - depending on your location you only get potential full watt production about 5 hours per day.

I think something is wrong with your meter, no way a coffee pot uses 75 amps

Nope, exactly correct. 75 amps at 12 volts is 900 watts, just like the nameplate says. The reefer only draws 600 watts for a short part of its cycle, then drops to around 70 to 90 watts for the rest of the time. It has an internal inverter and runs at variable speed. If you want to see the 600 watts you are going to have to watch the ammeter for hours!

Hey Scott, thanks sooooo much for a replay of exactly what my reefer is doing when its on the inverter. yes it does show a reading of about 60 amps when I first shift from shore power to inverter, but after a minute or less its showing around 6 amps, however when the ice maker cycles it draws about 12 amps. Bottom line is with that small draw on my system I won't need to hardly ever need that noisy & stinky generator while dry camping!

Renogy web site calculates your solar requirements based on what you want to operate.
There are too many variables involved. Solar energy has to be engineer to your needs, it's different for everything. What do you want to operate and for how long.

Aren’t you leaving out a decimal point. No way a 900 watt electric coffee pot pulls 75 amps. In a 30amp camper you would trip the breakers

They do make RV electric coffee pots that pull very little amps. I threw away the wifes electric hair dryer and now she sticks her head out the windows to dry it : )

We are on the DC side here. 900 watts at 12 volts is...75 amps. At 120 volts it is 7.5 amps. If you have a DC coffee pot it can't beat this math. Watts are watts.

You missed the part where he is powering it with his inverter.

He should buy a manual coffee pot, pour the water in the top and let it trickle thru the filter and coffee grounds into the pot. No electric needed.
