I took mine back to the Rv dealer and they put a new one on !

That's the best answer yet besides just removing it and stow it either in the back of the pick-up or in the unit basement. You pay $100,000 dollars for a unit and you have to worry about the spear? Alan did bring up a good point. The damage would tear your whole underbody up, and who knows what would happen to the unexpected driver behind you and his car or truck. Not having a secure locking device on a unit that cost that much money, my voice would be heard from the west to the east coast....Good luck with your repairs, I know the Old Coot would be glad to help you Alan..

I couldn't fathom the havoc that a loose spare tumbling under the unit would cause. From just tearing things up to possibly tossing it on it's side, then as mentioned, anyone behind you would suddenly have to deal with a spare tire in the road, if they're not busy watching you crash.

I checked mine the other day, and it was fine. But I like the locking mod, for security and theft prevention. I might look into this little mod.
