Spare tire
Anybody else have the problem of finding their spare not staying tight to the frame? I have to rewind mine quite often. It comes loose while underway. Anybody come up with a fix?

I hadn't noticed, but I also have not looked. Now, I need to go look!
I think I'll wait until after breakfast.

I've never come across or have heard of anyone with this problem. I do know that when I lower my spare and then crank it back into place, I will wiggle it around to find that perfect "nesting" place, and crank a bit more. If yours is continually coming loose, I would say there is a problem with the lift box. I would look to see if there is some type of tension adjustment on this. I've personally have never looked, but worth a shot.

I had the same problem. To think of what would happen when that tire hit the pavement @ 60 mph it would wreck the entire trailer and definitely ruin a really good weekend. Last year I fixed it one day while camping at Pioneer Campground, Laporte PA, using a 3' piece of 3/4" angle, a 2-1/2 T hinge and a few screws, nuts & lock washers. Tools included a hacksaw, drill motor, drill & a few hand tools. I cut a piece of angle long enough to span the hoist brackets, then a couple of 1" long pieces for each side to mount to the hoist brackets then to the angle piece. I then bolted the T hinge to the 3/4" angle, drilled a hole in the hoist rod that aligned w/ the end hole the T hinge then used a lock pin to "lock the hoist rod to the T hinge that was bolted to the 3/4" angle. W/ pin installed hoist rod will not rotate! Problem solved & it took all of 45 minutes to fix.
I'd include photos but it's dark outside, will add them after church tomorrow.

Alan, we have had this problem with our 2012 Cedar Creek 36RE. A neighbor noticed the spare tire moving as we were pulling away from a camp site. I tightened it up quickly we were on our way. I do check it before we leave for a trip (added it to our pre-departure check list) and have only had it be loose one other time. This doesn't fix the issue, but it helps it not become a major problem.
Hope this helps,
Mike

re: SpareTire
I might be wrong, but this problem seems to be mostly a related to the 2013 Creek. When I have checked it before leaving I find it nice & secure since putting the lock pin on it.
Travel safe & enjoy the journey

Great thread. Having a CDL and driven trucks for years I thought I had my RV pre-trip inspection down. I never thought about checking the spare mounted on the back.
Thank you for sharing

Looks good. I don't have that problem with my spare since I have to keep it in front storage. My driveway is too steep and the tire would hit if left under The Beast.

Maybe I helped a few avoid having a bad day by raising the spare tire issue - no pun intended. But, Mikey, you hit the head on the nail - or whatever!

Here is the best fix ever. Take it off and put in the bed of your truck. I'm sure Kathy can do it.....

Or do like AquaMan posted, find the 'sweet' spot and tighten it a little extra.

Has anyone on here just took the spare tire down and put the spare in the basement? So you can have a clean underbelly, is it worth it, gas mileage.

What I meant was the basement of the camper, keep the spare tire in the campers basement, do you think it would help the fuel mileage any, that way I would have a clean underbelly

I really do not think that you will gain any noticeable increase in your MPG.

Good one RedDragon. I bet you knew what he was asking. By the time the air gets to the spare it is about as disturbed as it can get so no, I do not think it will make even a .0001 mi per gal difference.

I don't know thats why I was asking, but I bet it would do a little better than that. But anyway I will not have to worry about spare tire falling off. Anyway you never know

Ours came in the basement, or rather where the generator would normally go. Stays nice, neat, clean and tucked out of the way. Debated doing an underbelly mount at first to free up space but I kind of like it in the basement.
