They are designed to be left on and not taken off.

Thanks for all the information. We ordered 4 step covers. I'll have to see if I can use all of them.

We got indoor/outdoor self sticking carpet tile and put them on the steps of our 08 Flagstaff when it was new and they were still on the steps when we traded it off in Feb12. Put the same thing on our 12 5er in Feb 12 and they are still looking good and they do help keep the dirt outside.

I've always left them on. They do a great job keeping sand, mud and crud out of the camper.

I have them on my steps (Quad) on my Columbus 365RL. They stay on and I have no problem with closing the step.

Same as Cajun Happy - all four steps, leav'em on and bottom step folds up no problem.

I cut 4 small slits on each side of the piece of carpet, wrap it around the step, thread a nylon tie through the slits I cut (on the under side of the step) pull it tight, trim the nylon tie and I got a perfectly good step cover. Looks great. My steps are the radius quad step and I can fold mine up with the covers on. I put them on last June and they still look good. Plus I have enough left for an extra set when they need replaced. CW price for 4 step covers in a color the DW didn't like would have been over $70.00 with tax. These I made, in the color the DW likes, cost a little over $16.00 and I have two sets. Everyone is Happy, Happy, Happy.

Thanks for reminding me that I have a brain and can make some of this stuff! Had just bought two- returned them and got enough material from lowes to make six! My bottom folding step doesn't like to close back up with one on so now I have two extras.

I just bought a 24 inch wide by 12 foot long strip of outdoor carpet at lowes. I cut each one 19 inches long, used a heated nail to melt four holes about 2 inches from the edge on each side. I also used nylon ties and tied them on the steps, they work perfect for a total of $14.... Sorry I didn't take photos, I'll try to get some next week...

I'll post some after my mid-afternoon nap. Only thing different is I had a grommet kit in the garage from harbor freight. Click image for larger version
