Step Covers
We have ordered step covers for our Creek. We are hoping they will help cut down on the dirt that gets carried inside.
One question that I have is do you leave them on the steps while travelling or do you take them off before you leave and put them back on when you get to the next campsite?
I don't want to leave them on the road somewhere, but having to take them off and put them on is just one more thing that would have to be added to the departure and arrival checklists.
Any thoughts?

I got a set off Amazon on my last camper. We traded it in and before I did so I started taking them off. My wife was like what are you doing, I replied these things are great I'm not leaving them on!
She said leave em, we can get new ones.
The point is, they are terrific, so much so that I went for them right before the trade in!

Had them on every trailer and never took them off. Don't have one on our MH because it has a rubber landing. If you have a quadra step you can't put one on the first step because it will not fold up. Wash them with a hose. They dry quickly.

We leave ours on all the time. The steps fold up tight and they never come off. Hose cleans them and they dry fast. keeps the dirt out of the 5er.

Actually just bought new ones today for the new trailer. Going to start with one on bottom step and go from there.

I have a quad step and like Ducky said, you can't fold the steps with the bottom one on. So, the top 3 steps have them tie wrapped on and I use springs from Ace Hardware on the bottom one. It gets removed when we get ready to hit the road and put back on when we get to our destination.

Leave them on.
Maybe it comes from living in Hawaii and Japan, but we don't wear outdoor shoes inside. Also, if we are wearing sandles, etc., I have a small tote beside the steps with about 5 inches of water in it. Kick off your flip-flops, step into the water, then step out onto the mat.

I couldn't find step covers in a color that the DW liked. I went to Lowes and found indoor/outdoor carpet in the color the DW liked and made my own. Had a 22" wide piece cut from the 12' bulk roll, cost about $16.00 with tax. Then I cut nine 16" x 22" pieces from it. I cut 4 small slits on each side of the piece of carpet, wrap it around the step, thread a nylon tie through the slits I cut (on the under side of the step) pull it tight, trim the nylon tie and I got a perfectly good step cover. Looks great. My steps are the radius quad step and I can fold mine up with the covers on. I put them on last June and they still look good. Plus I have enough left for an extra set when they need replaced. CW price for 4 step covers in a color the DW didn't like would have been over $70.00 with tax. These I made, in the color the DW likes, cost a little over $16.00 and I have two sets. Everyone is Happy, Happy, Happy.

Thanks for all the information. We ordered 4 step covers. I'll have to see if I can use all of them.

We got indoor/outdoor self sticking carpet tile and put them on the steps of our 08 Flagstaff when it was new and they were still on the steps when we traded it off in Feb12. Put the same thing on our 12 5er in Feb 12 and they are still looking good and they do help keep the dirt outside.

I've always left them on. They do a great job keeping sand, mud and crud out of the camper.

I have them on my steps (Quad) on my Columbus 365RL. They stay on and I have no problem with closing the step.

Same as Cajun Happy - all four steps, leav'em on and bottom step folds up no problem.

Thanks for reminding me that I have a brain and can make some of this stuff! Had just bought two- returned them and got enough material from lowes to make six! My bottom folding step doesn't like to close back up with one on so now I have two extras.

I just bought a 24 inch wide by 12 foot long strip of outdoor carpet at lowes. I cut each one 19 inches long, used a heated nail to melt four holes about 2 inches from the edge on each side. I also used nylon ties and tied them on the steps, they work perfect for a total of $14.... Sorry I didn't take photos, I'll try to get some next week...

I'll post some after my mid-afternoon nap. Only thing different is I had a grommet kit in the garage from harbor freight.
