That one only has 825 joules of protection. That might be more suited for a pop up trailer. I just bought this one with 2100 joules of protection: http://www.campingworld.com/shopping...s-30-amp/73993

I need to be more clear with my description of our Progressive Industries set-up and should refer to our hardwired unit as an Electrical Management System, 50 amp. We also have the digital remote display. First, and this may not be important to you, it is made in the USA and guaranteed for life, plus their customer service department has received excellent reviews.

Features include: 5 mode surge protection with a 3640 total Joule rating and there is a surge indicator that displays an error code (E- 1) if the circuit has been damaged and needs replaced. Other features beyond surge protection are: high/low voltage protection, time delay for A/C compressor, A/C frequency protection, reverse polarity protection, open neutral protection, open ground protection, accidental 220V protection, remote information panel, previous error code, bypass switch, modular designed replacement parts, and it is microprocessor controlled.

The unit is 5" x 9 1/2" x 4 1/2". Our dealer placed ours inside the "end table" between the couch and the outside well where the receptacle for the shore line is located. The display panel is set in the front of the "table" several inches below the top. We have had it for about six months and I am much more relaxed knowing that it is in place and protecting our investment.

Hope this is helpful.

We bought, IMHO is the BEST surge protector out there. Progressive EMS. End of story. No, CW doesn't sell THAT brand with a LIFETIME warranty.

OL creeker,

I was looking at this model, http://www.campingworld.com/shopping...otection/56420.

Is this the same as you have or should I be looking for something else?

Also, can somebody tell me where I should be installing it on a 38fl and does it take long to do?

Just curious. I'd like to have it in there before I venture out too far.

you can mount it pretty much anywhere you can access the power cable inside camper, since it has a remote display, you don't need to see it. Time depends on exactly where you install it and your mechanical/electrical ability.

You are looking at a hard wire unit the frog is a plug in unit, 2 different units all together. Ol Creeker is a portable one. But still comes with a lifetime warranty. they both do the same exact thing. Not quite sure what he is talking about? maybe he can explain that to all of us.
