Has anybody switched out their "china bombs" for American made? What brand and type?

Tire exchange

Unless you are going with LT tires their are no ST tires made in North America that I know of.( except the Goodyear 614) What size of tire are you looking for?

Went with the Maxxis, 4 on the camper last year, 2 on the boat two years ago, no issues and tow nice.

If you're talking 5er then anything with 6k lb axles can use LT tires but 7k axles you want to get the G614's. TT can use ST tires with no problem. Picking up my new Silverback tomorrow and told dealer won't take it off lot with ST tires on it so he was able to get my 1 year old LT tires transferred. We looked at 6 used 5ers off another lot and out of the 6, five of them had tore up sides from blow outs...not good odds...

I talked to the salesman at Jeff Couch, and he said that all Goodyear are now being made in China. We are buying a 36ckts in Feb. What about Cooper Tires?

Just a discussion yesterday regarding tires. Commercial delivery driver left Goshen with new 5er. Turned off exit to dealer, in sight, 2 tires on left side blew!
No ez answer!! Maybe the issue on damage is all of the cheap stuff on the rv around the tire and housing.
Perhaps metal surrounding under belly and ez replace fender skirts is a better choice. 😁.
As bloggers know, my previous 2011 Keystone blowout was $3200. My cost was: $1000 deductible; $300 tire,( new explosive type from a land far away where people speak a different language).

Watch the outer diameter and carrying capacity on any tire you put under a 36QBOK. I recently wanted to upgrade and found that due to my extreme closeness between the tires, I couldn't increase the outer diameter at all. I went in an entirely different direction (215/75R17.5 LRJ Continental HTL2 Eco-Plus radial tire rated at 4,805 pounds with a 75 mph speed rating).

They are American made. I'm not sure where they are available- I ordered the whole setup from Trailer Tires and Wheels - Steel & Aluminum Trailer Wheels, Bias & Radial Trailer Tires. They were shipped the next day from Indiana.

A little surprise for me- my 3gallon Porter Cable pancake compressor which is rated up to 135psi can't push air into them over 110psi. I have to buy a new air compressor!

Just check the outer diameters per specs. Trust me- I found a a good bit of variance between tires of the same size (ST235/80/R16).

And yeah, I went nutty and swapped everything out. I'm running uber heavy as we're living it in for a year+ long trip. The existing tires were maxed out.

They are used alot on equipment trailers like backhoe trailers. I think there were some on a super low step deck semi trailer i looked at once. Alot of hotshot guys around here use them too. Also i believe they are an option (or may be standard) on DRV and Lifestyles and other high end 5ers.
Definitely the best way to go if your on the road alot.

They were described to me as being a commercial tire and designed for a lot of miles. They laughed at me when I said I'd put "a lot" of miles on them in a year and that my "a lot" was ~20k.

Thats quite a few for an rv, in my book! Or almost any trailer thats not used otr every day.
But yeah, on commercial, my otr driving neighbor likes to get about 600 miles a day.
That would be awesome to have the peace of mind that the 17.5 gives compared to our 235/80/16 tires!!
(At least if someone actually tows a lot like you. I put more miles on my boat trailer in a month than i ever have on my Sabre)

I would disagree.

Pick a few small towns, and give them a call to see if they have any replacements in stock...

Could leave you stranded, waiting for rubber.

Or... Know that you have odd balled your setup, and carry a few spares.

Thats always good advise to carry a spare and tools also (especially if its a uncommon size) . With those tires one spare should be plenty since they are such a heavy tire.

Now st tires on the other hand.....you cant have enough. I have 1 spare for my tripple axle boat trailer, but im in the process of adding 2 more that will be mounted on hubs. That way i have 3 spare wheels and 2 spare hubs. Hubs are what will really leave you stranded.
